Maine defenseman Bernardo makes NCAA DI commitment
The Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that Top Prospects defenseman Nicholas Bernardo has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Long Island University.
Bernardo, 20, just completed his second season playing in the NAHL for the Nordiques. The 5’9/173 lbs. native of Hauppauge, NY, was one of the top defensemen in the NAHL during the 2022-23 season, recording 38 points (9 goals, 29 assists) in 54 regular season games.
Bernardo also added seven points in seven Robertson Cup Playoff games, which ranked tied for 2nd on the Nordiques roster.
He was also selected to and played in the 2023 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the East Division team, where he recorded two points in two games played.
“I’m proud to announce my commitment to play division 1 hockey at Long Island University. I would like to thank my friends, family and coaches who have helped me along the way,” stated Bernardo on social media.
During his rookie season in 2021-22, Bernardo recorded 37 points (6 goals, 31 assists) in 59 regular season games. For his efforts, he was named to the NAHL All-Rookie Team for the 2021-22 season.
In 113 career NAHL regular season games, Bernardo has recorded 75 points.
