Nordiques sweep Titans to move onto East Finals
East Division Semi-Finals, Game 3: New Jersey 1 @ Maine 5 (Maine wins series, 3-0) – The Maine Nordiques ousted the defending Robertson Cup Champions from the Playoffs thanks to a 5-1 win on Thursday, which completed a three-game sweep.
After a scoreless 1st period, the Titans were first on the board in the 2nd period as Ben Muthersbaugh scored on the power play to make it 1-0. That lead would last unti the midway part of the game when Maine took over. Brendan Gibbons scored at the 10:29 mark to make it 1-1. Filip Wiberg would score just over two minutes later on the power play to give Maine the lead for good at 2-1.
In the 3rd period, the backbreaker came early in the form of a power play goal from Oliver Genest that make the score 3-1. Later in the period goals from Patrick Schmiedlin and another from Wiberg made the final, 5-1.
With the win, the Nordiques advance to the East Finals to face Maryland, which begins next weekend. Thomas Heaney made 39 saves in the win, while Zakari Brice made 22 saves in the loss.
