Oklahoma forward Ahlrik makes NCAA DI commitment
The Oklahoma Warriors of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward William Ahlrik has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Lake Superior State in the CCHA.
“I am extremely proud and honored to announce my commitment to play NCAA Division-I hockey and further my education at Lake Superior State University,” said Ahlrik. “I got a great feeling, talking with Coach Whitten, and I really like how they develop players.”
The centerman is fifth in team scoring for Oklahoma, recording 48 points (18 goals, 30 assists) in 53 games during the 2022-23 season.
The 6’0/183 lbs native of Tidaholm, Sweden plays a two-way game and in all man-power scenarios, on the powerplay and penalty kill. Of Warriors who have played in at least 50 games, Ahlrik has the second fewest penalty minutes on the team with just 12.
In addition to believing in the development of talent and receiving a virtual tour of the facilities at Lake Superior State, Ahlrik knows that the next step in his hockey career won’t just be about hockey.
“Something that was very important to me is that they care about the people they bring in,” said Ahlrik. “They care about you as a human, not just as an athlete.”
He credits many for helping him toward his college commitment including family, friends, teammates and coaches. “I’m very excited to see what the future holds,” said Ahlrik.
Prior to playing in the NAHL this season, Ahlrik played junior and youth hockey in Sweden for HV71.
