NAHL Weekend Preview
The last weekend of October has 28 games on the slate in another busy weekend of NAHL action.
It was another great week for NCAA commitments as several more players make NCAA Division I commitments as the current season total is now up to 123 committed players.
In addition, eight players with NAHL ties have been recognized on the National Hockey League’s (NHL) ‘Prospects to Watch’ list for 2023 draft-eligible players with the release of NHL Central Scouting's preliminary list of players to watch in North America and Europe.
No race is tighter than the one in the Central Division with first and last place separated by just six points. The red-hot Austin Bruins head back on the road and will face a surging Aberdeen Wings team that hasn’t lost in regulation in five straight games. The battle of North Dakota resumes this weekend as Minot and Bismarck face one another in a home-and-home series. In other action, St. Cloud will step outside the division to face the Minnesota Wilderness in a home-and-home series. The North Iowa Bulls will also play outside of the division as they host the Springfield Jr. Blues.
In the East, the Maryland Black Bears enjoy a nine-point lead atop the division as for the second straight week will play the Johnstown Tomahawks, this time in Maryland in a three-game set. The Maine Nordiques are in Danbury looking to add to their two-game winning streak as they face the Jr. Hat Tricks. The final series has the Northeast Generals in New Jersey to take on the Titans with the two teams separated by three points in the standings.
Much like the Central Division, the Midwest is also a tight race, particularly at the top where the top four teams separated by just three points. The Chippewa Steel cut into the division lead of the Kenai River Brown Bears on Thursday night with a 5-1 win in Kenai, and the two clubs face one another twice more. The Janesville Jets will try to do the same in Fairbanks after coming away with a 3-1 win on Thursday with two more games on Friday and Saturday. The other divisional series has the Wisconsin Windigo in Anchorage looking to snap their current three-game slide against the Wolverines in a three-game set. Out of the division, the Wilderness have a home-and-home with St. Cloud and Springfield is in North Iowa.
In the South, the Odessa Jackalopes are in North Richland Hills and will try and slow down the 1st place Brahmas who are 12-1 and who have won 10 straight games. The Oklahoma Warriors will play the first-ever game in the state of Oklahoma as they have their home-opening weekend against the Shreveport Mudbugs. In the final series, Amarillo and New Mexico will square off in Albuquerque with the two teams tied for 2nd place in the South with 15 points and identical 7-2-1 records.
