NAHL Weekend Preview

Just four weekends remain before the end of the 2021-22 NAHL regular season as the push for the Robertson Cup Playoffs enters high gear. The top four teams in each division qualify for the Robertson Cup Playoffs, which begin on Thursday, April 21st.
This past week, the New Jersey Titans became the first NAHL team this season not only to clinch a playoff spot, but also win their division. This weekend could see as many as three more teams lock up a playoff spot as the St. Cloud Norsemen are on the brink in the Central and New Mexico and Lone Star are just a few points away in the South.
A total of 28 games are slated for a busy schedule on Friday and Saturday.
The NAHL saw a handful of more NCAA commitments this past week, bringing the current season total to 216 NCAA commitments for the 2021-22 season.
In the Central this week, the aforementioned Norsemen get their shot at claiming a playoff spot as they travel to Bismarck to face the Bobcats, who are making a last-minute push for the final playoff spot. The Bobcats are six points back with eight games to go. 2nd and 3rd place collide this weekend as the Aberdeen Wings host the Austin Bruins. It is must-win time for North Iowa as they host 4th place Minot, as thy trail the Minotauros by seven points with just eight games remaining.
In the East, the Jamestown Rebels look to make their push for the final playoff spot as they host the Johnstown Tomahawks. The Northeast Generals occupy the 4th spot and will be in Danbury for two games against the Jr. Hat Tricks. The final series has the Maryland Black Bears looking to snap a five-game losing streak as they are in Maine to take on the Nordiques.
In the Midwest, all eight teams are in action and the standings are tight. The race for the top spot continues as 1st place Fairbanks hosts Chippewa. The 2nd place Springfield Jr. Blues are just two points back of 1st place as they host the Minnesota Magicians, who are just three points out of the final playoff spot. The Janesville Jets and Minnesota Wilderness have a big series in Cloquet as the Wilderness sit just two points ahead of the Jets for 3rd place. Finally, lingering just a point behind the Jets for the 4th and final playoff spot, the Anchorage Wolverines face an almost must-win situation as they host the Kenai River Brown Bears.
In the South, New Mexico can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Odessa in their two-game series. The same holds true for the Lone Star Brahmas, who need just one more win to clinch a playoff spot as the host El Paso, who are looking to snap a 19-game slide. There are big time playoff implications for Amarillo and Shreveport in their series with the Wranglers six points back of the Mudbugs for the final playoff spot. Wichita Falls looks to maintain their spot in 3rd place as they host Corpus Christi.
