NAHL alum McKay named as Richter Award Finalist

Dryden McKay played in the NAHL from 2014-16 for the Corpus Christi IceRays and Springfield Jr. Blues.
Minnesota State senior and NAHL grad Dryden McKay (Corpus Christi IceRays/Springfield Jr. Blues) has been named one of the three finalists for the 2021-22 Richter Award, which goes to the top men's hockey goaltender in the nation.
A native of Downers Grove, Ill., McKay was recently named the CCHA Player of the Year and CCHA Goaltender of the Year for his efforts this season. He is also a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award.
A two-time All-American, McKay stands 35-4-0 for the season with a .934 save percentage and a 1.27 goals against average.His 35 wins this year lead the nation and have established a NCAA DI men's hockey record for single-season victories. Minnesota's Robb Stauber (1987-88) and Michigan's Marty Turco (1995-96), with 34 wins, are the previous record-holders.
Already this year McKay established a NCAA standard for career shutouts (he has 33) and a Minnesota State record for career wins (110, which stands third all-time in NCAA history).
For his four-year college career, the Downers Grove, Ill., native stands 110-19-4 with a 1.45 GAA, and .932 Sv% in 136 games played.
Joining McKay as finalists for this year's Richter Award are Northeastern University sophomore Devon Levi and Quinnipiac University sophomore Yaniv Perets.
The ninth annual Richter Award will be presented in April during the NCAA Division I Frozen Four.
McKay appeared in 71 career NAHL games over the course of two seasons with the Corpus Christi IceRays and Springfield Jr. Blues. During the 2014-15 he was honored with the NAHL’s Academic Achievement Award.
