The Shreveport Mudbugs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Jacob Smith has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Trinity College.
Smith, 20, finished his junior hockey career with his final season being spent in Shreveport. The 5’11/185 lbs. native of Anchorage, Alaska, finished 3rd in team scoring this season, recording 34 points (12 goals, 22 assists) in 47 games played.
Smith was the NAHL South Division 2nd star of the week back on September 23rd, as he recorded five points during the NAHL Showcase.
“Jake was a great addition to the Mudbugs this year. Of his 12 goals, four of them were game-winners, so he scored at key moments in the game. He was also responsible at both ends of the ice with a +9 rating. Gritty and skilled is the best way to describe him. He has a great ability to slow the game down, protect pucks, and make players around him better. We thank Jacob for all his efforts in a Mudbugs uniform and are excited to see him contribute at Trinity,” said Mudbugs head coach Jason Campbell.
