Generals pick up 7-5 road win in Maine on Wednesday

Northeast 7 @ Maine 5 – Generals forwards Liam McCanney and Trevor Smith each scored twice to lead the Generals to a 7-5 road win in Maine over the Nordiques on Wednesday night.
The Nordiques opened the scoring with the lone goal of the 1st period as Casper Soderling notched his second goal of the season.
From there, it was all Generals in the 2nd period as they scored five straight goals in a 14-minute span to take a 5-1 lead. Smith notched both of his goals in the 2nd period, including a power play tally. McCanney, Gerard Marretta, and Keegan Ripper also found the back of the net in the five-goal 2nd period.
In the 3rd period, the Nordiques mounted a comeback as Timmy Kent scored just :25 seconds into the period to make it 5-2. After Tyler Cooper scored for Northeast to make it 6-2, the Nordiques rattled off three straight goals, including two from Stefan Owens and another from Kent to make it a 6-5 game late in the 3rd period. However, an empty-net goal in the final seconds from McCanney made it a 7-5 final.
Northeast goalie Joey Stanizzi made 24 saves in the win, while Avery Sturtz made 28 saves in the loss.
