Bismarck forward Resseguie makes NCAA DI commitment

December 21, 2017
The Bismarck Bobcats of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that second-year captain Jared Resseguie has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey with the reigning national champion Denver University starting immediately after the Christmas break.

“It feels exhilarating to be on my way to playing college hockey,” stated Resseguie, who has been with the Bobcats since their Central Cup run in 2015-16. “I received a call that [Denver] was in need of a player and were looking for a guy that could fit a role on their team—and I was lucky enough to be that guy. Opportunities like this are rare and once it was presented to me, I couldn’t pass it up.”

In 121 appearances in black and gold spanning two-plus seasons in the NAHL, the Arvada, Colorado, native piled up 69 points on 17 goals and 52 assists; he entered the break in third on the Bobcats with 22 points (6g, 16a) in 29 games in 2017-18.

Resseguie wore a letter in each of his seasons with the Bobcats: earning the alternate captain’s “A” in 2015-16 before being named captain in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

“Jared has been a heart-and-soul guy for our team for three years so it will obviously be tough to see him go,” admitted Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie. “At least until you consider the reason why: he is joining the team that won last year’s national title and has been in the top 5 in every poll all of this season.

“Add to that the fact that he’s from the Denver area and you couldn’t ask for more for him so at the end of the day we are excited for Jared and his incredible opportunity at DU.”

A charter member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, the Pioneers are a powerhouse program at the Division I level: appearing in 28 NCAA Tournaments—including the last 10 in a row—reaching the Frozen Four 16 times and amassing eight Division I national championships.

Resseguie is confident that the Bobcats have prepared him well to join the Pios midseason.

“The Bobcats prepared me for college hockey by preaching work ethic,” added the three-year NAHL veteran. “I learned in Bismarck that it doesn’t matter if you’re the best player on the team or not: if you put in the work you will be come the player you want to be and earn the opportunities you deserve.

“Hard work does pay off and I owe Layne and [assistant coach] Garrett [Roth] a big debt of gratitude for helping me over the last two and a half seasons.”

Prior to playing in the NAHL, Resseguie played midget hockey for the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders, who are now members of the NAPHL.
