Saturday Scores: 1st place Minot wins big on the road
Aston 3 @ Johnstown 2 (OT) – Sixty minutes weren’t enough to settle a score between East Division rivals Aston and Johnstown on Saturday. Aston’s Brennan Kapcheck gave the Rebels a 3-2 win, scoring the game-winning goal just 2:18 into overtime. Aston’s two regulation goals were scored by Dom Garcia and Evgeny Yakovlev. Johnstown’s goals were scored by Andy Iehle and Filips Buncis. Aston’s Mareks Mitens earned his 10th consecutive win with 29 saves, while Johnstown’s Britt League took the OTL with 18 saves. Boxscore
Northeast 2 @ New Jersey 5 – With a 5-2 win at home, the New Jersey Titans claimed a weekend sweep over the Northeast Generals. Goals for New Jersey were scored by Chris Garbe, Gordie Helmuth, Nick Abruzzese, Maxim Andreev, and William Riedell. Northeast saw goals from Mike Egan and Justin Brandt. New Jersey’s Brandon Bussi took the win in net with 30 saves, while Northeast’s David Fessenden made 33 saves in the loss. Boxscore
Amarillo 3 @ Wichita Falls 4 (OT) – Bonus hockey made an appearance in a North Texas showdown between the Amarillo Bulls and Wichita Falls Wildcats on Saturday. The Wildcats prevailed with an overtime goal from Ryan Orgel. Regulation goals for Wichita Falls were scored by Aleksi Poikola, Steven Tillie, and Ricky Carballo. Amarillo goals were scored by Hayden Broomhead, Tyler Miknich, and George Mika. Evan Moyse took the win in net for Wichita Falls with 24 saves, while Amarillo’s Nikita Babintsev was given the OTL despite 41 saves. Boxscore
Minot 7 @ Aberdeen 4 – Reid Stefanson had a hat-trick and an assist and Nate Pionk scored twice as the Minotauros picked up their second win of the week with a 7-4 win in Aberdeen. Minot scored four times in the 2nd period, which included Stefanson’s first, two from Pionk and another from Tyler Jeanson. Stefanson then scored two more goals in the 3rd period and Alex Adams also scored. Aberdeen goals came from Joey Strada in the 1st and 3rd periods and other goals coming from Gage Mackie and Tyler Bossert. Lucas Murray made 33 saves in the win. Boxscore
Corpus Christi 1 @ Lone Star 2 – Erik Gordon made 20 saves to help the Brahmas to a 2-1 win and weekend home sweep of the IceRays. After a scoreless 1st period, Blake Evennou gave the Brahmas a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period. Lone Star scored again in the 3rd period with the eventual game-winning goal from Justin Addamo, his 5th of the season. The IceRays lone goal came midway through the 3rd period on a tally from Josh Tripp. Cam Burggrabe took the loss, making 29 saves. Boxscore
Springfield 4 @ Fairbanks 1 – Evan Fear capped off a great weekend with 27 saves as the Jr. Blues picked up an important weekend road sweep in Fairbanks thanks to a 4-1 win on Saturday night. After a scoreless 1st period, the Jr. Blues got on the board first in the 2nd period with a goal from Braden Brown. Fairbanks tied the game at 1-1 later in the period with their lone goal from Hunter Wendt. The Jr. Blues blew the game open in the 3rd period with goals from Fabio Hollenstein and two from Brennan Blaszczak. Josh Sarlo made 18 saves in the Ice Dogs loss.Boxscore
Shreveport 1 @ Odessa 2 – The Odessa Jackalopes held on for a win at home over the Shreveport Mudbugs on Saturday night. Two first period goals from Chase Thudium and Joe Kinsella gave the Jackalopes their advantage for the night. Shreveport’s Frankie Melton scored the Mudbugs’ tally in the second period. Taking the win in net for the Jackalopes was Jonny Hogue with 40 saves. Shreveport’s John Roberts made 30 saves in the loss. Boxscore
Coulee Region 6 @ Austin 5 (OT) – Six different players scored for the Chill, including defenseman Steven Quagliata, who netted the OT-winner as Coulee Region picked up a 6-5 win in Austin. The Chill jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Trenton Bliss, Alex Falconer and Marhsal Plunkett. Austin responded with four straight goals from Cooper Sande, Michael Piehler, Jon Richards and Dan Petrick. The Chill regained the lead in the 3rd period with goals from Kevin Dineen and Caleb Schroer, only to see Austin tie the game at 5-5 with a goal with less than a minute in regulation from Petrick, his second of the game.
