Rebels finish weekend with 4-1 win over Knights

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 1 @ Aston 4 – The Rebels wrapped up two wins and five points in three games this past weekend to move to within two points of 1st place New Jersey, as they dispatched of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights at home on Sunday by a scored of 4-1.
Darion Hanson made 26 saves in the win, while Michael Merulla and Ryan Cusin had three points each and Dom Garcia had a goal and assist.
At the 13:11 mark of the 1st period, Merulla opened the scoring with assists to both Cusin and Garcia. Just over two minutes later, Garcia scored what would be the eventual game-winning goal as he found himself the recipient of a nice spin-o-rama pass from Cusin to tap home a shot and give the Rebels a 2-0 lead after one period.
The Rebels increased the league to 3-0 early in the 2nd period while on the power play as a face-off win led to some nice passing from Merulla to Brennan Kapcheck, who then found Cusin on the near boards along the hash mark. Cusin then walked in a wired a shot on the short side of Knights goalie Andrey Svistunov for a three-goal advantage.
In the 3rd period, the Knights got their goal midway through as Jacob Hamacher scored a power play goal with assists to Braden Brown and Dmitriy Zaitsev. With just :04 seconds to go, defenseman Gvido Jansons added an empty-net goal to complete the scoring.
Hanson picked up his 16th win of the season in a Rebels uniform, making 26 saves, while Svistunov made 28 saves in the loss.
