Blizzard, Wilderness pick up wins on Wednesday

Aberdeen 4 @ Brookings 5 (OT) – TJ Samec scored less than a minute into overtime as the Brookings Blizzard picked up a 5-4 win at home over Aberdeen on Wednesday night. The game was very even, with each team holding the lead at one point or another during the contest. Brookings led 3-2 after two periods on the strength of two goals from Chase Gamelin and another from Zach Mitchell. Nick Cardelli scored in the 3rd period to tie the game at 4-4 after Aberdeen had taken a lead. The Wings got goals from Kevin Fitzgerald, Kieran Durgan, Jackson Graalum and Will Hammer. Samec’s goal in OT was a nice individual effort down the left win, beating two men and firing a shot over the shoulder of Aberdeen goal Gavin Paczosa. Eric Hancock picked up the win, making 19 saves, while Paczosa made 37 saves in the loss. Boxscore
MN Magicians 1 @ MN Wilderness 4 – The Wilderness exploded for three goals in the 3rd period, including two from Isak Bergland as they defeated the Magicians, 4-1. After a scoreless 1st period, it was the Wilderness who took a lead early in the 2nd period on a power play goal from Aaron Miller. Braxton Collins would score late in the 2nd period to tie the game at 1-1. In the 3rd period, Miller scored his second goal of the game, which turned out to be the game-winner. Miller also assisted on both goals from Bergland who added two insurance goals later in the 3rd period. Luke Kania picked up the win in goal, making 18 saves, while Will Ulrich made 28 saves in the loss. Boxscore
