Friday Finals: Brown Bears stay hot with win over Ice Dogs

Fairbanks 1 @ Kenai River 3 – Zac Lazzaro scored twice as Kenai River extended their winning streak to four straight games with a big 3-1 home win over their in-state rival Fairbanks Ice Dogs.  Lazzaro opened the scoring in the 1st period with a goal with a helper from Zack Zulkanycz.  Chris Nuth extended the lead to 2-0 in the 2nd period.  Fairbanks struck back late in the 3rd to make it 2-1 on a goal from Garret Clemment, but Lazzaro added his second of the game to make it a 3-1 final.  Marcus Zelzer made 31 saves in the win for Kenai River. Wenatchee 6 @ Fresno 3 – Six different players scored for the Wild as they doubled up Fresno 6-3 on Friday night.  Things looked good for the Monsters after an early shorthanded goal from Trevor Husch, but Wenatchee answered with five straight goals from Joe Sullivan, Chris Kerr, Max McHugh, Josh Hartley and Brian Williams to break the game open.  Chase Sisk and Matt Salituro added 3rd period goals for Fresno, but Jono Davis scored for Wenatchee to make the final 6-3. Kalamazoo 3 @ Michigan 0 – 46 saves from Marcus Due-Boje and goals in each of the three periods, led Kalamazoo to a 3-0 shutout road win over the Warriors in Flint on Friday.  For the Swedish native Due-Boje, it was his first shutout of the season, while stopping a season-high 46 shots.  Danny Hamburg scored the eventual game-winning goal on the power play in the 1st period.  Lucas Kohls added a 2nd period goal, while Mac McDonnell scored in the 3rd period.  Nick Kovalchik had two assists. Jamestown 3 @ Soo 2 – Defenseman Aaron Scheppelman’s goal with :04 seconds remaining in the game was the difference as the Ironmen inched to within four points of 1st place Soo with a 3-2 win on Friday night.  Joe Ballmer made 42 saves in his return to the Jamestown line-up.  Daniel Cesarz gave Jamestown a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period, which was answered by two goals form Chris Waterstreet and Sean Murphy for the Eagles.  Dylan Zink tied the game late in the 3rd before Scheppelman’s heroics. Minot 2 @ Brookings 4 – The Blizzard scored the final three goals of the game to erase a 2-1 deficit and defeat the Minotauros, 4-2.  Minot led 2-1 in the 1st period on goals from Cameron Rowat and Mason Morelli.  Thomas Williams had the lone goal for Brookings.  In the 2nd period, Drew Brevig scored to tie the game at 2-2, and in the 3rd period Brookings got goals from Brandon Parker and an empty-net shorthanded goal from Craig Lindegard for the win. Johnstown 3 @ Janesville 4 (SO) – Janesville erased an early two goal deficit and ended up defeating Johnstown in a shootout on Friday, 4-3.  Johnstown led 2-0 early on goals from Cody Gylling and Ian Spencer.  The Jets would strike back late in the period on goals from Ryan Gotelaere and Dan Litchke.  The Jets took the lead early in the 2nd period on a goal from Todd Koritzinsky only to see the Tomahawks tie the game back up at 3-3 on a goal from Jordan Watt. Jordan Himley had the shootout winner for Janesville. Boxscore

Austin 6 @ Bismarck 5 (SO) – In a wild game in Bismarck, the Bobcats tied the game with two goals late in the 3rd period only to fall in a shootout, 6-5.  Austin led 5-3 midway through the 3rd period after a goal in the 1st period from Jay Dickman, goals in the 2nd period from AJ Reid and two from CJ Smith and a 3rd period goal from Brandon Wahlin.  Bismarck responded with goals from Matt Anders, Levi Blom, Stanislav Dzakhov, Adam Knochenmus and Joe Giordano.  Three Bruins players, Dickman, Reid and Wahlin scored in the shootout to secure the win. Topeka 5 @ Texas 2 – It was another five-goal outburst for the RoadRunners as they picked up a weekend road sweep of the Tornado.  It was another fast start for Topeka as the opened up a 2-0 lead early in the 2nd period on goals from Peter Halash and Kyle Sharkey.  Texas would respond to tie the game at 2-2 with goals from Scott Conway and Brandon Hawkins.  However, three 3rd period goals for the RoadRunners, two from Brandon Brossoit and one from Jerad Tafoya, secured the win.  Mackenzie Sawyer made 40 saves in the win. Amarillo 7 @ Wichita Falls 2 – On the strength of three, 1st period goals, the 1st place Bulls coasted to a 7-2 win in Wichita Falls on Friday night.  Blake Roubos scored twice and TJ Sherman added a goal to spot the Bulls a 3-0 lead after one period.  Mike Davis, Dan McNamara and Clint Carlisle scored early in the 3rd period to make it 6-0 before the Wildcats goal on the board with goals from George Pagonis and Nick Farmer.  TJ Sarcona completed the scoring. Odessa 2 @ Corpus Christi 4 – In front of almost 5,500 fans in Corpus Christi, the IceRays posted a 4-2 win after they scored the final three goals of the game.  Brandon Berkley gave the IceRays an early 1-0 lead, but that was erased by early in the 2nd period on goals from Matt Volonnino and Jimmy Peplinski.  Charles Baldwin answered back to tie the game at 2-2.  3rd period goals from Brandon Smith and Eric Purcell sent the large crowd home happy. Aberdeen 3 @ Coulee Region 4 – Cory Lushanko scored the final two goals for the Chill to give them a 4-3 home win over the Wings.  The Chill started out strong on goals from Mac Jansen and Cam Bleck to take a 2-0 lead.  Justin Parizek would answer back for Aberdeen to make it 2-1.  Lushanko increased the lead to 3-1 before goals from Patrick Steinhauser and Erik Baskin tied the game at 3-3.  Lushanko’s game-winner came on the power play 2:30 into the 3rd period.
