Sunday Wrap-up: Mustangs take weekend series from Wildcats

Wichita Falls 2 @ New Mexico 3 – The New Mexico Mustangs took the rubber match of their three-game set with the Wichita Falls Wildcats on Sunday, by a score of 3-2. After a loss on Friday, New Mexico won the last two games of the series, both by a goal. Sunday’s heroics for the Mustangs started in goal with Jake Stafford. Despite being outshot by the Wildcats 51-26, it was Stafford who kept the Mustangs in the lead. Jayson Angus would score the lone goal of the 1st period. The Mustangs increased the lead to 2-0 with a 2nd period goal from Charles Baldwin. After Evan Johnston gave the Mustangs a 3-0 lead early in the 3rd period, when Wichita Falls would mount a comeback. Outshooting the Mustangs by a whopping 28-8 in the 3rd period, the Wildcats would score twice, but it wouldn’t be enough thanks to Stafford, who made 26 saves in the 3rd period alone for the win. Amarillo 3 @ Corpus Christi 1 – In their fourth game in as many days, the Amarillo Bulls scored three, 1st period goals from Karl Beckman, Mike Erickson and Greg Gibson and never looked back in a road win against the IceRays. Mike Taffe made 20 saves for Amarillo’s 18th win of the season. Boxscore
Chicago 3 @ St. Louis 7 – Patrick Pollock, Frank Dichiara and Rance Hughes had three points apiece as the Bandits swept a three-game home set from the Hitmen. Chicago tried to stay close, but the Bandits scored the last three goals of the game for their 18th win of the season. Boxscore
Kalamazoo 4 @ Michigan 1 – The Jr. K-Wings outshot the Warriors 45-36 on their way to a 4-1 win on the road at Michigan. Austin Hervey scored twice and Robbie Payne had three assists in the win for Kalamazoo. Alex Okicki made 35 saves in goal for the Jr. K-Wings in the win. Boxscore
