Saturday Scores: Bobcats win highlights weekend of sweeps

New Jersey goalie Zakari Brice stopped 49 of 51 shots in a weekend road sweep of Danbury.

Bismarck 6 @ Aberdeen 4 - It was a back-and-forth affair between the Bismarck Bobcats and Aberdeen Wings but it was four unanswered goals from the Bobcats that gave them the 6-4 victory on Saturday night. Evan Hunter scored twice in the opening frame to give Bismarck a 2-0 lead. But Landon Parker and Nikolai Tishkevich scored 15 seconds apart to quickly tie things up at two goals apiece. Luke Lindsay and Jacob Vockley scored in the opening minutes of the second period to give Aberdeen a 4-2 advantage. Michael Neumeier would respond with two goals of his own and we headed to the final period tied at four. Julian Beaumont gave Bismarck the lead again just 4:48 into the third and Hunter finished off the Wings with his third goal of the night in the final minutes. Linards Lipskis took home the win after making 35 saves for the Bobcats. Cole Moore suffered the loss as he made 33 saves. 

New Jersey 2 @ Danbury 1 – Titans goalie Zakari Brice had another great outing, stopping 23 of 24 shots in a 2-1 win in Danbury, helping New Jersey to the weekend road sweep. Danbury was first on the board thanks to 1st period goal from Thomas Delfarno. New Jersey knotted the game at 1-1 in the 2nd period as Anthony Calafiore scored on the power play. Midway through the 3rd period, the game-winner came off the stick of Ben Muthersbaugh. Danbury goalie Marino Ramirez played well in the loss, making 45 saves.

St. Cloud 1 @ Austin 0 (SO) - A goaltender duel between Will Ingemann and Ethan Robertson went as long as it could until one of them blinked. St. Cloud scored a 1-0 victory in the skills competition as Blake Perbix and Tyler Dysart scored in the shootout. Gavin Morrissey was the only successful shooter for the Bruins. Ingemann ended the night making 29 saves to earn the shutout and the win. Robertson stopped 30 shots and was saddled with the loss.

El Paso 2 @ Corpus Christi 1 (OT)  - Bo Cosman’s goal at the 3:39 mark of overtime helped the El Paso Rhinos secure a weekend sweep of the Corpus Christi IceRays with a 2-1 victory on Saturday night. Mike Marquez netted his first of the season in the victory for El Paso while Michael Casey netted the lone goal for the home squad. Nolan Suggs stopped 29 of 30 shots in his Rhinos debut to earn the win. Thomas Kiesewetter stopped 24 shots in just under 64 minutes of action.

Amarillo 2 @ Shreveport 1 (SO) - The Amarillo Wranglers are the last undefeated team standing after they knocked off the Shreveport Mudbugs 2-1 in a shootout. Nikolas Campbell scored the only goal of the skills competition to secure the bonus point for Amarillo. Ben Ivey registered his first goal of the year late in the second period. That countered the Mudbugs only strike, a power play goal by Jake Mack. Luca Ganz made 30 shots in 65 minutes of play and denied all three shooters in the shootout to grab the win. Tommy Aitken stopped 25 shots and two of three in the shootout. 

Odessa 2 @ New Mexico 5 - William Howard led the way with a goal and two assists as the New Mexico Ice Wolves finished off the sweep of the Odessa Jackalopes with a 5-2 win on Saturday night. Alfred Lindberg had two goals of his own while Nicolas Haviar and Tyler Samodral also lit the lamp for New Mexico. Ryan Mansfield and John Perdion provided the offense for Odessa. William Craig improved to 2-1 on the season as he made 20 saves. Kameron Ragon was dealt the defeat as he made 21 saves. 

Johnstown 2 @ Northeast 4 – The Generals got two goals from both Paul Minnehan and Jake LaRusso in a 4-2 win over the Tomahawks, which completed a weekend home sweep. After a scoreless 1st period, the teams traded two goals apiece in the 2nd period as Minnehan struck twice for the Generals and Frank Jenkins and James Barbour answering for the Tomhawks. In the 3rd period, the Generals pulled away thanks to a pair of goals from LaRusso. Cullen DeYoung made 26 saves in the win and Matt O’Donnell made 33 saves in the loss.

Maryland 2 @ Philadelphia 1 – Jack Wieneke made 12 saves and Dimitry Kebreau scored again as the Black Bears won their 5th straight game thanks to a 2-1 win on Saturday in Philadelphia, completing a weekend road sweep of the Rebels. After a scoreless 1st period, the Black Bears took a 1-0 lead thanks to a 2nd period goal from Christian Catalano. Kebreau scored in the 3rd period to make it 2-0. Klaus Jogi netted the lone goal for the Rebels later in the 3rd period. Jack Fialkoff made 46 saves in the loss.

Fairbanks 2 @ Wisconsin 1 – Thanks to 43 saves from goalie Kayden Hargraves, the Ice Dogs completed a weekend road sweep of the Windigo thanks to a 2-1 win on Saturday night. After a scoreless 1st period, the Ice Dogs took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period thanks to a goal from Noah Wood. In the 3rd period, the Windigo tied the game thanks to a goal from Axel Begley. The Ice Dogs netted the game-winner with just over four minutes remaining thanks to Tyler Herzberg’s 4th goal of the season. Windigo goalie Gavin Moffatt made 20 saves in the loss.

Kenai River 4 @ Janesville 3 (OT) – Nils Wallstrom made 41 saves to lead the Brown Bears to another overtime win in Janesville, taking 2 of 3 games in the weekend series. The Jets took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period on a goal from Chris Pelosi. Kenai River then rattled off three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period as Garrett Drotts, Ryan Finch, and Ben Monson scored. The Jets mounted a late comeback in the 3rd period with goals from Noah Gibbs and another from Pelosi to tie the game at 3-3. In the overtime, it took just :30 seconds for the Brown Bears to net the game-winner as Noah Holt scored his first goal of the season. Jets goalie Peter Sterling made 26 saves in the loss.

Anchorage 6 @ Chippewa 3 – Two goals from Jackson Reineke and a three-point night from Gage Brown led the Wolverines to a 6-3 win in Chippewa on Saturday. Brown and Reineke netted goals in the 1st period to take a 2-1 lead. Kade Nielsen would score for the Steel. In the 2nd period, the lead increased to 3-1 for Anchorage as Aiden Westin scored on the power play. In the 3rd period, Nielsen scored two more goals for the Steel to complete his hat-trick, but it would not be enough as more goals from Reineke, Kyle Bauer, and Logan Lyke secured the 6-3 win. Ben Dardis made 42 saves in the win, while Carter Wishart made 19 saves in the loss.

Oklahoma 1 @ Lone Star 2 - Two third period goals from Bauer Swift helped the Lone Star Brahmas hand the Oklahoma Warriors their first loss of the season. After a perfect 4-0 record a the NAHL Showcase, the Warriors got the first lead of the game 6:41 into the second period as Kaden Nelson netted his first goal of the year. Swift would knot things up at the 6:27 mark of the third period on the power play before netting the game winner on another power play opportunity about five minutes later. William Gramme improved to 3-1 on the year as he made 33 saves. Cameron Korpi stopped 26 shots in the loss for the Warriors.

North Iowa 2 @ Minot 1 - Byron Hartley scored twice as the North Iowa Bulls doubled up the Minot Minotauros by a score of 2-1. Hartley struck first on the power play late in the second period of play with Simone Dadie picking up the assist. Hartley then scored unassisted just about midway through the third. Minot would make things interesting as Cooper Rice scored his second goal of the season but it would not be enough as Erik Chaffe made 32 saves and  improved to 3-0 on the season, finishing just 57 seconds short of his third consecutive shutout. Dane Couture turned aside 21 shots in the loss for the Minotauros.
