August 8, 2016

The Aston Rebels, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Jerry Miettunen has committed to play NCAA Division III Ice Hockey for the University of Wisconsin-Superior, who play in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). His commitment begins next month.
Miettunen, 21, had 21 points (6 goals and 15 assists) in 48 games last season. He appeared in two playoff games. The Tuusula, Finland native played in two games in the NAHL’s Top Prospect Tournament back in February for the East Division team.
“I’m excited to go UW-Superior” stated Miettunen. “I’m very familiar with Coach McKenna, and I’m looking forward to playing for him. I would like to thank my family, coaches, teammates and friends who helped get me to UW Superior” concluded Miettuten.
“Jerry was a big part of our defensive core last season” said Rebels head coach Joe Coombs. “He can flat out shoot the puck. I can not imagine that he will not help the Superior power play. I wish him nothing but the best” stated Coombs.
The University of Wisconsin Superior is coached by Rich McKenna. This past season the Yellow Jackets had an overall 9-15-3 record.
