Robertson Cup Semi-Finals (Austin wins series, 2-1)
Game 3: Austin 3 @ Lone Star 2 (OT) – In a thrilling overtime game to find out the last entry in the Robertson Cup Finals, it was the Austin Bruins who came from behind to defeat the Lone Star Brahmas, 3-2 in overtime to advance to their second straight Robertson Cup Finals where they will face and host the Minnesota Wilderness next weekend in an all-Minnesota team final. It was the Brahmas however, who took a lead early in the 1st period as the red-hot Roman Uchyn found himself behind the Bruins defense and raced in on a breakaway and shelved a shot over the left shoulder of Bruins goalie Evan Smith. The Bruins would tie the game midway through the contest as Cory Dunn got the puck at the point, walked in to the high slot and wristed a shot past Brahmas goalie Jake Kupsky to tie the contest at 1-1. The Brahmas regained a one-goal lead as Ludvig Larsson intercepted a clearing attempt and slid one between the legs of Smith for a 2-1 lead. But, the Bruins again would even things up courtesy of the power play as Trevor Boyd, the leading scorer in the regular season for the Bruinsm crashed the net and got a great pass from Ian Scheid and pushed a goal home past Kupsky to tie the game at 2-2. After a scoreless 3rd period, the game would go to overtime, and Bruins forward Alex Pettersson would provide the series clincher just over seven minutes into the extra frame. A turnover in the neutral zone led to a rush up the ice by Nico Sturm, who centered a pass for Pettersson who was left unmarked in the high slot and fired a shot over the glove of Kupsky for the game and series winner, sending the Bruins to the Robertson Cup Finals. Smith, who played his first game of the series, made 21 saves, while Kupsky took the loss, making 34 saves. The Bruins will now host the Minnesota Wilderness in the best of three Robertson Cup Finals next weekend. Boxscore
