NAHL Alumni Update

January 14, 2015
It was another big week for NAHL alumni playing in the NCAA. Here is a look at some of the former NAHL players that won multiple awards in their respective conferences:
Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week: Chris Rumble, Canisius College
Rumble helped anchor a strong defensive effort for the Griffs during the weekend as Canisius allowed only two goals in two games in a weekend sweep of second-place Holy Cross. The junior blueliner posted two points on a goal and an assist in the winning efforts and also led the team with 10 shots and four blocked shots during the sweep. Rumble played two years in the NAHL for the Wenatchee Wild from 2009-11.
ECAC Rookie of the Week: Hayden Stewart, Cornell University
Stewart recorded his second career shutout, making 36 saves to anchor the Big Red's 2-0 road victory at Clarkson Saturday. Nineteen of those stops came in the first period, with Stewart keeping the Big Red in the game until they scored the game-winner late in the second period. Stewart is the first Big Red freshman with at least two shutouts in a season since All-American David McKee had five shutouts during the 2003-04 campaign. Stewart played in the NAHL for the Corpus Christi IceRays during the 2012-13 season.
WCHA Rookie of the Week: Kyle Bauman, Bemidji State University
Bauman helped Bemidji State to a sweep of WCHA rival Alabama Huntsville by factoring in both game-winning goals, tallying three points (tied for tops among all league rookies) and finishing with a +3 rating (best among WCHA freshmen last weekend). The rookie from Apopka, Fla. assisted on the game-winning score Friday evening and then scored his first collegiate goal with a second-period strike. On Saturday, Bauman's first period goal served as the deciding score in the Beavers' second consecutive 4-0 win. Bauman's two goals came on five shots, while he also added a block. Prior to this season, Bauman played the last two season in the NAHL for the Wichita Falls Wildcats and he is also an alumni of the NAPHL, having played for the Pikes Peak Miners 16U team during the 2009-10 season.
WCHA Defensive Player of the Week: Michael Bitzer, Bemidji State University
Bitzer recorded 119:55 of scoreless hockey and posted consecutive shutouts to lead Bemidji State to a WCHA series sweep over rival Alabama Huntsville. The freshman from Moorhead, Minn. turned aside all 42 shots faced over the weekend in a pair of 4-0 victories, his first two collegiate shutouts. Bitzer, who made 18 saves Friday and 14 on Saturday, backstopped a BSU penalty-kill unit that held the Chargers scoreless on seven power-play opportunities. He is now riding a scoreless streak of 179 minutes and 23 seconds, dating back to the first period of the Beavers' Dec. 13 contest. During the later half of the 2011-12 season, Bitzer played for the Alexandria Blizzard in the NAHL.
Big 10 #3 Star of the Week: Eamon McAdam, Penn State University
McAdam posted a .972 save percentage to guide Penn State to a victory over Ohio State on Saturday as he notched 35 saves against the Buckeyes, including 27 saves in the game’s final two periods. He improved to 3-1-0 in Big Ten play this season. Recently, McAdam boasts a .935 save percentage and 2.01 goals-against average over his last three starts. This is his first career weekly award. McAdam played in the NAHL for the Austin Bruins during the 2010-11 season.
- Former Bismarck Bobcats forward Stanislav Dzakhov (2012-14) scored his first collegiate goal for Niagara Saturday against Air Force while adding an assist; 2009-10 blueliner Dan Weissenhofer added an assist for the Falcons in the same contest.
