Fairbanks Goaltender Menard makes NCAA DI Commitment
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Charlie Menard has committed to play NCAA Division I for Augustana University in the CCHA.
Hometown netminder of the Ice Dogs, Charlie Menard is heading to South Dakota to join the Vikings. Menard is the youngest and one of the most dominant goaltenders in the league. He ranks third overall in the NAHL with his 1.592 goals against average while is ranked fourth with his .939 save percentage. So far this season he has produced two shutouts, both being 17-save shutouts. The ‘07 goaltender also played in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup for Team USA this past summer.
Menard shares his excitement to join the Augustana Vikings.
“I am extremely honored and excited to announce my commitment to play division I hockey at Augustana University. I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, advisors, and everyone who helped me down this path.”
Head coach of the Ice Dogs, Ryan Theros, explains the commitment to development he has seen Menard possess.
“We are excited for Charlie and his commitment to play Division I Hockey at Augustana. Our goalie coach Adam Carlson has done a phenomenal job with our goalies throughout and I know he is looking forward to defining Charlie’s game even more. Charlie has a great attitude and commitment to continued development on a daily basis. We are looking forward to his success ahead for the Ice Dogs. Congrats to Augustana, they are getting a great player and great person in the future with this commitment.”
Menard is the fifth member of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
