New Year's Finals: Janesville, Michigan complete sweeps
Janesville 3 @ Port Huron 0 – Brock Kautz stopped all 22 shots that came his way as the Janesville Jets picked up an early week road sweep of their series in Port Huron against the Fighting Falcons. With the win, the Jets moved past the Fighting Falcons into 5th place in the North Division. The Jets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead nine minutes into the 1st period on goals from Alec Vanko and Mike Sullivan. The goals chased Port Huron starting goaltender Max Milosek from the game. Ruslan Pedan added a power play goal in the 3rd period. Jason Ford picked up two assists and Vanko assisted on the other two goals for a three-point night in the sweep. Boxscore
Michigan 3 @ Springfield 2 – For the second straight game, the Warriors posted a big comeback in the 3rd period, this time helping them complete a road sweep of the Springfield Jr. Blues. Warriors goaltender Trevor Gorsuch made a season-high 45 saves in the 3-2 win. After a scoreless 1st period, the Jr. Blues jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd period with goals from Ryan Atkinson and Brett Skibba. It took over 11 minutes into the 3rd period for the Warriors to start their comeback, but it only took them four minutes to grab the lead as AJ Marcinek, Darren McCormick and Shawn Badali all scored within a short four-minute time span to give Michigan the win and sweep.
