Saturday Scores: Ironmen stay in 1st place tie with sweep

Kalamazoo 2 @ Jamestown 3 (OT) – Luc Gerdes scored the overtime winner with less than two minutes remaining in the extra session as the Ironmen completed a weekend home sweep of Kalamazoo with a 3-2 OT win.  Brendan Vetter scored first to give the K-Wings a 1-0 lead.  Jamestown took a 2-1 lead in in the 2nd period with goals from Evan Ritt and Ross Pavek.  Robbie Payne scored in the 3rd period for Kalamazoo to send the game to OT. Johnstown 3 @ Port Huron 4 – The Fighting Falcons picked up a 4-3 win and a weekend split at home with the Tomahawks.  Mitch Maloney and Brett D’Andrea scored to give Port Huron a 2-1 lead after two periods.  Jaycob McCombs scored for Johnstown.  Each team scored twice in the 3rd period as McCombs scored his second of the game and Jeff Bergh added the other for Johnstown, but Payden Mielke and Alex Archibald answered, with Archibald’s game-winner coming with under two minutes left. Michigan 1 @ Soo 2 – Goaltender Zach Nagelvoort was the star of the game, making 47 saves as the Soo Eagles picked up a weekend sweep of the Warriors with a 2-1 win on Saturday.  Michigan took a 1-0 lead early in the 1st period with a goal from Brad Pizzey.  Michael Crowley scored in the 2nd period to tie the game at 1-1.  Eric Rivard ended up with the game-winner midway through the 3rd period to give the Eagles the win.  Crowley picked up an assist on the game-winning goal. Springfield 2 @ Janesville 1 (SO) – In one of the more epic shootouts in recent NAHL history, the Springfield Jr. Blues ended up with a 2-1 win and a weekend split in Janesville with a 2-1 shootout win on Saturday.  The shootout featured an amazing 30 combined shooters (15 for each team) and Springfield’s Dylan Rosen ended up with the winner.  Springfield’s Mike Fazio and Janesville’s Ruslan Pedan scored in regulation.  Springfield’s Ryan Kellenberger made 32 saves and stopped 14 of 15 shooters in the shootout for the win. Bismarck 5 @ Coulee Region 2 – The Bobcats got four assists from Adam Knochenmus as they won their lone game of the weekend, a 5-2 victory in Coulee Region against the Chill.  Patrick Moore had two goals for Bismarck, including the game-winner.  Cory Chapman, Shane Omdahl and Joe Giordano also scored for the Bobcats.  Mac Jansen and Cory Lushanko had the goals in the loss for the Chill. Corpus Christi 5 @ Odessa 2 – The IceRays came from behind to score all five of their goals in the 3rd period to defeat and complete a weekend sweep of Odessa with a 5-2 win.  Lawrence Cornellier and John Feemster scored power play goals in the 2nd period to give the Jacks a 2-0 lead.  However, two goals from Perry D’Arrisso and two from Rudy Sulmonte along with another from Emil Romig all in the 3rd period would give the IceRays the win. Austin 4 @ Aberdeen 3 – The 1st place Bruins got 45 saves from rookie Jason Pawloski as they completed a weekend sweep of the Aberdeen Wings with a 4-3 win.  Austin jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st period on goals from CJ Smith, Grant Eichstadt and AJ Reid.  The Wings cut the lead to 3-2 with goals from Justin Parizek and Steven Johnson, but Chris Fischer scored the game-winning goal midway through the 3rd period.  Colton Kramer added a late goal for the Wings.
