Saturday Scores: Bulls back on top in South

Amarillo 3 @ Topeka 1 – The Bulls lead in the South is now four points and rising as they completed a weekend road sweep of Topeka with a 3-1 win on Saturday.  The Bulls held the RoadRunners to just 22 shots on goal and scored a goal in each period.  Brandon Brossoit scored first for Topeka, but that would be all the Bulls and goalie Paul Berrafato would allow.  Mike Davis, Ryan Cole and Omar Mullan tallied to the Bulls in the win. Aberdeen 1 @ Coulee Region 3 – It was another strong performance from Chill goaltender Blake Cates, who stopped 41 of 42 shots as Coulee Region completed a weekend home sweep of the Wings with a 3-1 win on Saturday.  Cory Lushanko scored early to give the Chill a 1-0 lead.  That was answered by Aberdeen’s Joe Sullivan early in the 3rd period, but the Chill would get two more from Andy Faust and Mac Jansen to secure the win. Odessa 3 @ Texas 2 – Newly acquired goaltender Nick Deery made 34 saves in his Jackalopes debut and despite being outshot 36-10, the Jacks snapped an 11-game losing streak with a 3-2 win in Texas on Saturday, which salvaged a weekend split.  Odessa scored three times on just 10 shots on goals from Taylor Portner, Josh Racek and Jimmy Peplinski.  Texas, who trailed at one point 3-0, got goals in the 3rd period from Louie Rowe and Brandon Hawkins to make it close. Wenatchee 4 @ Fresno 1 – Blake Roubos scored twice to help the Wild to a 4-1 win in Fresno, which completed a weekend sweep of the Monsters.  It was the 5th straight win for Wenatchee, who head into the Christmas break with the league’s best record.  Meanwhile, it was the 8th straight loss for the Monsters.  Nathan Flynn and Chris Kerr also scored for the Wild and Robert Nichols had to make just 15 saves.  Mark Bittner had the lone goal for Fresno. Kenai River 2 @ Fairbanks 3 – For the second straight night, the Ice Dogs picked up a 3-2 win over the Brown Bears and completed a weekend home sweep.  Devin Loe’s goal early in the 3rd period was the difference in the game.  The Brown Bears led 2-1 after the 1st period on goals from Albin Karlsson and Bryan Hodges.  Colton Wolter scored for Fairbanks.  Nick Kinz tied the game at 2-2 with a goal early in the 2nd period.  Kevin Aldridge made 30 saves in the win. Jamestown 1 @ Johnstown 0 – In front of a packed house of over 3,700 fans, Jamestown goaltender Reid Mimmack spoiled the party and the thoughts of a sweep as he stopped all 37 shots in a 1-0 shutout win for the Ironmen.  Collin Brennan was almost as equally as good in goal for the Tomahawks as he made 30 saves.  However, one snuck by in the 3rd period as Nico Sierra scored the only goal of the game. Port Huron 4 @ Michigan 3 (SO) – The Fighting Falcons completed the weekend sweep of the Warriors thanks to a goal in regulation from Vito Aluia, who also scored the shootout winner.  Bryan Yim and Matthew Uvodich also scored in regulation for Port Huron, while Michigan got goals from Darren McCormick, Connor Lyons and TJ Stuntz.  Alex Blackenburg made 32 saves in the win. Soo 2 @ Janesville 1 – The goaltending ability of Tyler Marble was on display for a second straight night as the veteran goaltender made 40 saves in a 2-1 win over the Jets, completing the weekend road sweep of Janesville.  After scoreless 1st period Janesville got on the board first on a goal from Jordon Himley.  Soo responded with just one second remaining in the period on a goal from Eric Rivard.  Alex Taulien scored the game-winning goal on the power play late in the 3rd period. Kalamazoo 3 @ Springfield 2 – It was a weekend road sweep for the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings as they outlasted Springfield on Saturday, 3-2.  The K-Wings jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period on goals from Davis Dekorte and Taylor Burden.  The Jr. Blues tied the game in the 2nd period with a pair of goals from Mike Fazio and Brett Skibba.  However, early in the 3rd period Patrick Spellacy’s goal would end up as the game-winner. Brookings 2 @ Austin 5 – The Bruins got some revenge at home as they took care of the Brookings Blizzard, 5-2 to increase their lead in the Central Division back to 10 points.  Brandon Wahlin and Drew Anderson had two goals apiece in the win.  CJ Smith had the other goal for the Bruins, who scored four goals in the 3rd period to put the game out of reach.  Evan Hesse and Thomas Williams scored for the Blizzard, who led 2-1 after two periods. Bismarck 1 @ Minot 5 – Five different players scored and goaltender Tyler Parks had to make just 19 saves for the Minotauros in their 5-1 home win over Bismarck.  Minot made a statement early in the game with four goals in the 1st period to open up a 4-0 lead.  Mason Morelli, Jake Clifford, Cameron Rowat and Tim Donohue all scored in the opening frame and Jadin Martin added a late 3rd period goal.  Adam Knochenmus had the lone tally for the Bobcats.
