Friday Finals: Soo moves into tie for 1st with shutout of Jets

Soo 3 @ Janesville 0 – Soo goaltender Tyler Marble stopped all 38 shots that came his way for his 4th shutout of the season as the Eagles picked up a 3-0 shutout win on the road in Janesville and moved into a tie for 1st place in the North Division.  Michael Crowley, Eric Rivard and Jared Van Wormer scored in the win for the Soo.  Jets goaltender Austin Priebe made 30 saves in the loss. Amarillo 3 @ Topeka 2 (OT) – Defenseman John Rey scored with less than two minutes remaining in overtime to give the 1st place Amarillo Bulls a 3-2 road win in Topeka on Friday night.  Amarillo forward Mike Davis had both goals in regulation as he scored in the 1st period and in the 2nd period on the power play.  Amarillo had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 and never trailed in the game, as they outshot Topeka 29-20.  The RoadRunners had goals from Kyle Sharkey and Sean Gaffney. Odessa 1 @ Texas 4 – The Tornado outshot the Jackalopes 49-15 and scored the final three goals of the game to win their fifth straight game in a 4-1 win over Odessa.  Scott Conway had two assists for the Tornado who got goals from Drew Mayer and Alexey Soloviev in the 2nd period and Brandon Platt and Mitchell McPherson in the 3rd period.  Josh Racek had the lone goal for the Jackalopes in the loss. Bismarck 3 @ Minot 2 (SO) – In the battle of North Dakota, it was Aaron Nelson who bested Tyler Parks on this night as the Bobcats picked up the extra point in the shootout win.  The Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period on goals from Sam Wolfe and Patrick Moore.  The Minotauros ended up tying the game with two power play goals from Lucas Oliver and Mason Morelli.  Nate Repensky had the shootout winner for Bismarck.  Boxscore

Jamestown 0 @ Johnstown 5 – In front of over 3,300 fans at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena, the Johnstown Tomahawks picked up their 8th win in their last nine games with a 5-0 shutout of the Ironmen.  Goaltender Collin Brennan made 19 saves for his first shutout of the season.  Cody Gylling had two assists and the Tomahawks got goals from Connor Wright, Jesse Kessler, Jordan Watt, Brandon Reinholz and Andrew McDonald. Michigan 2 @ Port Huron 3 – The Fighting Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st period and held on to beat Michigan 3-2, snapping a three-game skid for the Falcons.  Goals from Bryan Yim, Kody Polin and Matthew Uvodich all in the 1st period gave Port Huron the early advantage.  However, goals in the 2nd period from the Warriors Jon Farkas and Martin Gruse made it a close game, but Falcons goalie Max Milosek made the lead hold the rest of the way. Austin 4 @ Brookings 5 (OT) – Captain Thomas Williams snapped an eight-game goalless streak with the overtime winner as Brookings withstood a furious comeback by the Bruins for a 5-4 win.  The Blizzard led 4-1 at one point with two goals from Eric Brenk and others from Derek Sand and Evan Hesse.  Austin stormed back with goals from Drew Anderson, Riley Covard, John Simonson and Jay Dickman to get the game to OT and at least salvage a point. Aberdeen 1 @ Coulee Region 6 – Blake Cates made 36 saves and the Chill scored four, 1st period goals on their way to a convincing 6-1 at home over the Wings.  Matt Williams scored twice, both in the 1st period along with goals from Mac Jansen and Hunter Anderson.  Jesse Tredinnick and Garrett Hendrickson added 3rd period goals for the Chill before the Wings spoiled Cates shutout bid with a goal from Jake Horton. Kalamazoo 5 @ Springfield 3 – The Jr. K-Wings jumped out to a 4-1 lead on their way to a 5-3 win in Springfield on Friday.  Five different players scored for Kalamazoo including Cole Pierce, Kyle Gattelaro, Brennan Sanford, Danny Hamburg and Robbie Payne.  The Jr. Blues got goals from Theo Tydingco, Mike Fazio and Alex Baskakov.  K-Wings goalie Alex Okicki made 43 saves and Trevor Boyd also had two assists for Kalamazoo. Wenatchee 3 @ Fresno 2 (SO) – Defenseman David Mead is quickly becoming a shootout specialist as he scored his second straight shootout winning goal, as the Wild came from behind to defeat the Monsters, 3-2.  Fresno jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the 1st period with goals from Kyle Sucher and Trevor Husch.  Robert Nichols replaced Jordyn Kaufer in goal and it sparked the Wild as goals from David Powlowski and Evan Schmidbauer tied the game at 2-2 setting up the shootout. Kenai River 2 @ Fairbanks 3 – Garret Clemment scored the game-winning goal with just .6 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Ice Dogs to a dramatic 3-2 win over their in-state rival Kenai River in front of another sold out crowd in Fairbanks.  Devin Loe, who set up the final tally by Clemment on a 2 on 1, scored the first goal and Patrick Newell also scored for Fairbanks.  Jake Bushey and Carson Vance scored for the Brown Bears.
