Soo salvages split in lone NAHL game on Sunday

November 18, 2012

Michigan 1 @ Soo 3 – Robin Hoglund scored twice as the Soo Eagles salvaged a weekend home split with the Michigan Warriors with a 3-1 win in the lone game in the NAHL on Sunday night.  Hoglund struck first just over six minutes into the 1st period to give Soo a 1-0 lead with assists to Cody Von Rueden and Pat Gazzillo.

The Eagles increased the lead to 2-0 late in the 2nd period with a goal from Alexander Taulien with assists to Michael Crowley and Layne Martin.  Just over a minute later, Hoglund answered again with his second goal of the game with another assist to Von Rueden, his second of the night.

Michigan finally got on the board in the 3rd period as over four minutes into the final frame Jon Farkas scored with assists to Brock Labelle and AJ Marcinek.  The goal spoiled the shutout bid of Eagles goaltender Zach Nagelvoort, who made 19 saves in the win.  Dillon Kelley took the loss for the Warriors, making 24 saves before being pulled in relief of Trevor Gorsuch, who stopped all 13 shots that came his way.

With the win, the Eagles remain in 2nd place in the North Division, three points begin division-leading Jamestown, while Michigan remains in last place with a 5-15-3 record.
