January 22, 2012

Traverse City 2 @ Kalamazoo 5 – The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings kept their hot streak going with a perfect three-game weekend thanks to a 5-2 home win on Sunday over the Traverse City North Stars.  The Jr. K-Wings jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st period on a goal from Kyle Gattelaro.  Kalamazoo would add two more goals in the 2nd period to make it 3-0 off the sticks of Andrew Graves and Trevor Boyd.  Boyd’s goal would eventually end up as the game-winner, while Graves was part of a three-point game and a nine-point weekend.  Two Traverse City goals from Mitchell Snider bookended Kalamazoo goals from Jacob McDowell and Anthony Appleyard in the 3rd period.  Ken MacLean was stellar in goal for the Jr. K-Wings making 35 saves on 37 North Stars shots, while Zach Nagelvoort suffered the loss, making 29 saves.  Kalamazoo’s Brock Raffaele had two more assists completing his best weekend of the year in the NAHL.  Kalamazoo has now won six of their last seven games and sit comfortably in the 2nd place in the North Division, just 9 points behind Port Huron with three games in hand on the Falcons.
