Sunday Wrap-Up: Bandits take three from Hitmen

November 14, 2011

St. Louis 8 @ Chicago 5 – The Bandits completed a three-game road sweep of the Hitmen with an 8-5 win on Sunday.  The win kept the Bandits alone in 1st place in the Midwest Division with 31 points, two points ahead of 2nd place Janesville.  St. Louis forward Cody Ganchar was the big offensive star of the night for the Bandits, as he registered a hat-trick and an assist in the win.  Joe Kalisz and Josh Dangel also had three-point games for St. Louis.  After the team’s deadlocked at 2-2 in the 1st period, St. Louis broke the game open in the 2nd period with four unanswered goals.  Chicago tried to make a game of it early in the 3rd, which included the second goal of the night from Anthony Annunziato, but it wasn’t enough as St. Louis put the game out of reach late in the 3rd including Ganchar’s hat-trick.  Both starting goaltenders were chased from the net thanks to the offensive outburst by both teams, with St. Louis outshooting the Hitmen 41-25 for the game.  Kalisz is now tied for the NAHL scoring lead with 29 points.  Boxscore

Jamestown 3 @ Kalamazoo 4 – Kalamazoo’s Robbie Payne scored as time expired in regulation to send the game to overtime and the Jr. K-Wings eventually won in a shootout, 4-3.  Joe Ballmer made 40 saves in the loss, while Alex Okicki got the win for Kalamazoo with 37 saves. Boxscore

Janesville 4 @ Springfield 0 – Tony Kujava stopped all 25 shots for his league-leading fifth shutout of the season as Janesville beat Springfield on the strength of two goals from John Olen. Boxscore

Alaska 5 @ Dawson Creek 3 – On the strength of three power play goals, Alaska took two of three on the weekend at Dawson Creek with a 5-3 win on Sunday.  Kevin Novakovich and Evan Janssen each had a goal and an assist in the win for the Avs. Boxscore
