Bulls defenseman Luke Jenkins commits to Army

November 11, 2011

The Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) announced today that defenseman Luke Jenkins has committed to Army for the 2012-2013 season. Army plays in the Atlantic Hockey Division. Jenkins joins Joe Kozlak who committed to West Point in September.

The twenty-year-old from River Falls, Wisconsin, is in his second year with the Bulls. In 17 games, Jenkins has netted two goals and four assists for six points. He’s a plus four and has a power play goal and three power play assists.

“I am definitely proud and honored to be going to Army to get a world class education, if everything goes well with my education,” said Jenkins. “I couldn’t be more excited.”

“Luke is a great example of hard work paying off,” said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. “Two years ago Luke came to us and fought his way on this team and eventually on all special teams. When times were tough on Luke. he continued to work hard and persevered.

Jenkins was part of an outstanding corps of defenseman for the Bulls that advanced to the Robertson Cup National Semi-Final. He tallied three goals and 10 assists for 13 points in 42 games. He was a plus 14 and had 37 minutes in penalties.

“Coach (Dennis) Williams and Joe Kozlak had nothing but great things to say about the program and the coaching staff,” Jenkins said. “Having an opportunity to get an excellent education from Army is something you can’t turn down.”

“I couldn’t be more happier for Luke who is a terrific team player,” Williams added. “I’m happy that he and Joe Kozlak will play together at Army. They are two of the finest young men that I know and it’s a pleasure to coach them.”

Luke Jenkins is the fifth member of the Amarillo Bulls and to commit to play Division I NCAA Hockey. He joins John Gustafsson (Merrimack College), Joe Kozlak, (Army), Greg Gibson, (Robert Morris), and Karl Beckman, (Holy Cross).
