Odessa defenseman DiPonio makes NCAA commitment
The Odessa Jackalopes of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Donte DiPonio has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for the University of New England.
“I was planning on coming back to the Jacks for the 2020-21 season, but when the University of New England called I couldn’t pass it up,” said DiPonio. “When I looked for a school, I looked at three things. Academics, hockey and location and they have all three and more. I’m super excited to start my new journey.”
A native of Trenton, Michigan, DiPonio came the Jackalopes late in the season. He played in the final six games for the Jackalopes, including the thrilling overtime win against Topeka.
“We are very excited for Donte to continue his education and hockey career at the University of New England,” said Jackalopes assistant coach Adam Phillips. “He joined the team towards the end of the season, jumped into our line up and was a great addition to our team both on the ice and in our locker room. He is a very mature young man who presents strong character and we’re excited to see what the future holds for him.”
The University on New England is located in Biddeford, Maine. The Nor’easters play at the Division III level and are a part of the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
