Austin forward Mylynok makes NCAA D1 commitment

January 7, 2020
The Austin Bruins of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Connor Mylymok has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in the WCHA.

Mylymok, 19, is in his second junior season spending the majority of his career in the NAHL and with Austin. The 6’1/200 lbs, native of Wilcox, Saskatchewan has racked up 12 points in 14 games with the Bruins this season, which doubles his total from a year ago where he registered six points in 54 games played.

“Connor has been one of the most coachable kids I’ve ever coached,” said Bruins Head Coach Steve Howard. “He’s worked extremely hard to get better and continues that everyday. I am so proud of Connor for accomplishing his dream of getting an NCAA Division 1 scholarship to play hockey. Alaska-Fairbanks will be getting a great player and one the best leaders that we’ve had here in Austin.”

After his rookie season in the junior ranks in 2018-19, Mylmok began 2019-20 in the USHL with the Youngstown Phantoms where he managed two assists in five games played. Following his stint with the Phantoms, Mylymok was returned to the Bruins in the NAHL where he immediately made an impact with a pair of two-goal games and four multiple-point games.

“So far Austin has been nothing but a learning experience and an unforgettable time,” said Mylymok. “The countless hours at the rink with the boys and coaching staff has helped shape me into the player I am today and achieving this goal. I’ve been very well educated by the coaches and my teammates during my time here. I look forward to finishing the year with this group of guys we have here in Austin and doing some big things in process.”

With the commitment, Mylymok becomes the Bruins’ ninth committed player currently on the roster, with a tenth having departed mid-season to get a jump on his collegiate career.
