Johnstown goalie Leavy makes NCAA D1 commitment
June 28, 2018
The Johnstown Tomahawks, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), have announced that goaltender Jack Leavy has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Michigan in the B1G.
Leavy, a native of Birmingham, Michigan, was acquired in a mid-season trade with the Minnesota Wilderness. He started the 2017-18 season with the Philadelphia Rebels. In 2016-17, Leavy aided the Rebels in their pursuit of a Robertson Cup, falling in the championship game to Lone Star.
Leavy was also selected to and played in the 2017 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the East Division team.
“I am so happy for Jack on this fantastic achievement,” head coach Mike Letizia said. “When we acquired him mid-season, we knew that he was a very good goaltender but we learned quickly just how great of a person he is. Being from Michigan, it has to be a dream come true for him to now attend such an outstanding college like the University of Michigan and be a part of their storied hockey program. This is a great day for Jack and his family and I honestly could not be prouder of him.”
Leavy played in 24 games for the Tomahawks, earning a 9-12-2 record with a 2.82 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.
Located in Ann Arbor, Mich., the Wolverines compete in the Big Ten Conference. The Wolverine hockey program has produced numerous NHL players and Stanley Cup champions including current Pittsburgh Penguins forward Carl Hagelin.
