MN Magicians 1 @ Springfield 2 – In a classic goaltender’s duel, the Springfield Jr. Blues got 35 saves from Mike Robinson to best 44 saves from Magicians goalie Ivan Prosvetov in a 2-1 win on Monday night in Springfield.
After a scoreless 1st period, in which both goalies held firm, the Magicians were first on the board in the game with a goal early in the 2nd period from Mitchel Slattery, who scored his 12th goal of the season as he won a race to the puck in the Jr. Blues zone and slipped a shot past Robinson.
Seven minutes later, the Jr. Blues tied the game at 1-1 as Springfield won a face-off and kept the puck alive in the Magicians zone, ultimately with Matt Cassidy finding Max Nylander in front who slipped a shot past Prosvetov to tie the game.
Midway through the 3rd period, veteran Jr. Blues forward Brennan Blaszczak used his speed to give the Jr. Blues the edge for good as he rushed up the ice down the left wing, beating two players and snapped a shot low past Prosvetov for the eventual game-winner.
The win moved the Jr. Blues into sole possession of 3rd place in the Midwest Division with 32 points as they moved a game over the .500 mark. The two teams play again on Tuesday night in Springfield.
