Saturday Scores: Chill, Blizzard secure final playoff spots

Janesville 2 @ Coulee Region 3 (OT) – The Chill punched their ticket to the Robertson Cup Playoffs with a 3-2 overtime win over the Jets. The win secured the #4 seed for the Chill, while the point for the overtime loss for Janesville secured the #2 seed for the Jets. Janesville led twice in the game at 1-0 and 2-1 on two goals from Cole Paskus. The Chill responded each time with goals from Alex Falconer and Alex Lambacher. In the overtime, it took less than a minute for Dominick Florian to net the game-winner. Matiss Kivlenieks made 23 saves in the win, while Jack LaFontaine made 32 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Aberdeen 3 @ Austin 4 – The Wings needed a win to capture the final playoff spot in the Central Division, but a goal late in regulation dashed Aberdeen’s hopes and ended their season with a 4-3 loss in Austin on Saturday. Austin took a 2-0 lead with goals from Luke Notermann and Austin Rueschhoff in the 1st period. However, the Wings responded with goals from Jackson Graalum and Brendan Riordan to tie the game at 2-2. The Bruins regained the lead in the 2nd period with a power play goal from Jade Miller. The Wings looked as if they would take the game to overtime as Carter Roo scored to tie things up at 3-3, but with only :49 seconds to go in regulation, Miller scored again on the power play to secure the win. Kris Carlson made 37 saves in the win, while Peter Thome made 38 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Minot 2 @ Brookings 1 – The Blizzard needed a win to secure the final playoff spot in the Central, but despite their 2-1 loss to Minot, they got into the playoffs thanks to Aberdeen’s loss in Austin. The Blizzard finished with the same number of points as the Magicians, but earned the final spot thanks to more wins. Minot got a 1st period goal from Jacob Dittel and a 2nd period goal from Christian Mohs. The Blizzard got their lone goal late in the 3rd period from TJ Samec. Minot goalie Lucas Murray made 29 saves in the win, while Brookings goalie Josh Kuehmichel made 15 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Bismarck 1 @ MN Magicians 4 – The standings will say that despite being tied for the final playoff spot in the Central Division in points, the Magicians fell one win short despite their 4-1 win over Bismarck in both team’s regular season finale on Saturday. Minnesota got 1st period goals from Kyle Wagner and John Peterson, a 2nd period goal from Johnny Panvica and a 3rd period goal from Tanner Tweeten. Pieter Von Steinbergs scored the lone Bobcats goal. Daniil Gerasimov made 31 saves in the win, while Nick Althaus made 23 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Topeka 1 @ Lone Star 2 – The Brahmas completed the regular season with a 2-1 win over the RoadRunners, a team they will face next weekend in the South Semi-Finals. Saturday’s game was a low-scoring defensive affair, but it didn’t take the Brahmas long to get on the board as Martin Mellberg scored just over six minutes into the game. The Brahmas made it 2-0 early in the 3rd period as Tomas Brejcha scored. Topeka answered with their lone goal of the night from Quinn Preston, but it would be all they would get as Brahmas goalie Corbin Kaczperski made 24 saves in the win. Topeka goalie Tyler Johnson made 20 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Amarillo 6 @ Odessa 1 – In the regular season finale for both teams, the Bulls got off to a great start and never looked back in a 6-1 win. The Bulls season came to a close, while the Jackalopes advanced to the playoffs as the #4 seed in the South. The Bulls got 1st period goals from Coale Norris, Georgia Mika and Charlie Singerhouse. Odessa answered with their lone goal of the game, which came in the 2nd period from Brennen Miller. Amarillo then added three more goals from Tyler Hall, Liam Ferguson and another from Mika to secure the win. Bulls goalie Anton Martinsson made 39 saves in his final junior game. Jon Flakne made 45 saves in the loss. Boxscore
