The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are excited to announce that Assistant Captain and forward Stephen Kelly has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at Buffalo State in the SUNY Hockey Conference for the 2016-17 season.
Kelly, 20, is now the eighth member of the expansion WBS Knights NAHL team to secure his college commitment this season.
The native of Columbus, Indiana, is in his first season playing in the NAHL and second overall with the Knights. In 55 regular season games this season, Kelly has recorded 27 points, which includes 16 goals and 11 assists. His 16 goals ranks 2nd on the Knights roster so far this season.
“Stephen has been one of our leaders from day one this season. He was a true competitor through our difficult times and we are thankful we had a player like him this season as we got going,” said Knights head coach Tom Kowal. “Buffalo State has obtained a fantastic person and player and we wish him all the best as he moves into a new playing chapter of his life. He’s another member of the Knight’s Alumni we will always be very proud of.”
“I would like to thank my family for all their support over the years. I am especially grateful to the awesome coaches I have had who have helped me grow as player and person. I have had a wonderful few years with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights organization and feel lucky to have been a part of things here. I am looking forward to getting my collegiate career started,” said Kelly.
