Saturday Scores: Sweeps highlight weekend in NAHL

Darion Hanson posted his 4th shutout of the season as Aston blanked New Jersey on Saturday to close the gap in the East Division.

MN Wilderness 2 @ Janesville 8 – It was all Jets from start to finish as Adam Winborg and Dawson DiPietro each had five points as the Jets beat the Wilderness, 8-2, which also completed a weekend home sweep. DiPietro put the home side ahead 2-0 in the 1st period with a pair of goals. The lead swelled to 5-0 in the 2nd period as Adam Roeder, Shane Sellar and Kip Hoffman all scored. The Wilderness would answer with goals from Nick Altmann and Janis Jaks sandwiched between a goal from Adrian Holesinsky to make the scored 6-2 early in the 3rd period. Winborg then added two goals later in the 3rd period to make the final 8-2. Jets goalie Jack LaFontaine made 24 saves in the win. Boxscore

Aston 3 @ New Jersey 0 – Darion Hanson stopped all 20 shots that came his way for his 4th shutout of the season as the Rebels completed a weekend sweep of the Titans with a 3-0 road win on Saturday. The win drew the Rebels to within one point of 1st place in the East with six games to play. The eventual game-winning goal was scored in the 1st period on a power play strike from Dean Balsamo. Jensen Zerban and Drew Blackmun added 3rd period goals to complete the scoring. New Jersey goalie Jack Berry made 25 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Bismarck 1 @ Austin 2 (SO) – Kris Carlson made 31 saves to help the Bruins complete a weekend sweep of the visiting Bobcats with a 2-1 shootout win. The Bobcats got on the board first midway through the 1st period with a goal from Harrison Aide. It wasn’t until the later stages of the 3rd period that the Bruins broke through to tie the game at 1-1 with a power play goal from Travis Kothenbeutel. In the shootout, Jacob Paganelli and Evan Cholak scored to earn the extra point for Austin. Bismarck goalie Hunter Shepard made 21 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 0 @ Johnstown 3 – Andrew Lindgren stopped all 34 shots that came his way for his first shutout of the season as the Tomahawks completed a weekend sweep of the Knights thanks to a 3-0 win. The game was scoreless through the first two periods, but midway through the 3rd period, Tommy Horn scored what would be the game-winning goal. Anthony Parrucci and Brendan Jaquay would add two more goals later in the period to complete the scoring and win. Knights goalie Andrey Svistunov made 26 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Fairbanks 7 @ Coulee Region 1 – Three different players had three points apiece as the Ice Dogs swept the Chill thanks to a convincing 7-1 win on Saturday. It was the Chill who took an early 1-0 lead in the 1st period with a goal from Caleb Schroer. However, it was all Ice Dogs after that as a shorthanded goal from Reggie Lutz and a power play goal from Todd Burgess put Fairbanks up 2-1 after one period. The Ice Dogs blew the game open in the 2nd period with three more goals from Ryner Gorowsky, Ryan Kero and Clay Cross. In the 3rd period, Lutz added his second goal of the game and Evan Somoza also scored. Gavin Nieto made 18 saves in the win for Fairbanks. Boxscore

Odessa 1 @ Lone Star 6 – Peter Kessel scored twice and Hogan Davidson had four points as the Brahmas handled the visiting Jackalopes on Saturday, 6-1, which completed a weekend sweep and drew the Brahmas to within five points of 1st place. It was all Brahmas in the 1st period as two goals from Kessel and another from Davidson put the home side ahead 3-0. Odessa struck back in the 2nd period with their lone goal from Pierce Plummer, which came on the power play, but the Brahmas answered back with a power play goal of their own from Johan Lundgren to make it 4-1. Sean Giles and Dalton Skelly added 3rd period goals to make the final, 6-1. Corbin Kaczperski made 15 saves in the win. Boxscore

Brookings 1 @ Minot 5 – Colton Berg scored twice and Gunner Rivers made 42 saves as the Minotauros increased their lead in the Central Division with a 5-1 win over Brookings, which completed a weekend sweep. Minot jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Berg and Grayson Gavin. The Blizzard would answer on the power play before the period was over on a goal from Mikael Hakkarainen. It would be all Minot after that as Matt Jennings and Tyler Jeanson scored in the 2nd period to make it 4-1 and then Berg added his second of the game in the 3rd period to make it 5-1. Blizzard goalie Josh Kuehmichel made 28 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Topeka 4 @ Amarillo 2 – Three goals in the 3rd period helped the RoadRunners complete a come-from-behind 4-2 win and weekend road sweep in Amarillo. Things were tied at 1-1 in the 1st period as Charlie Singerhouse scored for the Bulls and Marcus Russell answered for Topeka. The Bulls took a 2-1 lead late in the 2nd period with a goal from Michael Forman. In the 3rd period, the RoadRunners scored three times in a 13-minute span with tallies from Cam Strong, Quinn Preston and Andrew Hart. Tyler Johnson made 25 saves in the win, while Brian Baker made 38 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Kenai River 1 @ Springfield 4 – Brady Tomlak had another big game to lead the Jr. Blues to a 4-1 win on Saturday over the visiting Brown Bears to complete a weekend sweep. Springfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st period with a goal from Josh Bell. Jeff Skinner scored in the 2nd period to make it 2-0 for the Jr. Blues. Tomlak and Isaac Ceh added 3rd period goals for Springfield to make the score 4-0. Kenai River got its lone goal later in the 3rd period from Evan Butcher. Jr. Blues goalie Niko Della Maggorie made 23 saves in the win, while Magnus Lindhe made 43 saves in the loss for Kenai River. Boxscore

Wichita Falls 1 @ Corpus Christi 2 – 40 saves from Dryden McKay helped the Corpus Christi IceRays to a 2-1 win at home over the visiting Wildcats, which split the weekend series and have the IceRays their first win of the season over the Wildcats. Corpus Christi got all the scoring they needed in the first seven minutes of the game as goals from Brad Power and Drake Lindsay one minute apart from one another put the home side up, 2-0. Wichita Falls struck back in the 2nd period with their only goal from Aleksi Poikola on the power play to make it 2-1. Wildcats goalie Justin Kapelmaster played well in the loss, making 34 saves. Aberdeen 4 @ MN Magicians 3 (OT) – Carter Roo scored 1:39 into overtime as the Wings earned a weekend split with the Magicians thanks to a 4-3 OT win. Each team came away with three points in the series. The Magicians led 2-1 after one period as Travis Brown and Brady Heppner scored, while Gavin Payne had the lone Wings goal. After a scoreless 2nd period, The Wings scored twice early in the 3rd period with goals from Kyle Siemers and Will Hammer to take a 3-2 lead. Late in regulation, the Magicians tied the game up with a goal from Pierce Crawford. Peter Thome made 40 saves in the win, while Daniil Gerasimov made 47 saves in the loss. Boxscore
