Saturday Scores: Ice Dogs cruise to sweep

Fairbanks 6 @ Springfield 2 – Liam Stirtzinger had a five-point night, which included two goals and three assists as the Ice Dogs completed a weekend road sweep of the Jr. Blues thanks to a 6-2 win on Saturday. The Jr. Blues opened the scoring with the only goal of the 1st period scored by Luke Radetic.  After that, it was all Ice Dogs as they scored four goals in the 2nd period, which included tallies from Stirtzinger, Cayden Cahill, Reggie Lutz and Clay Cross. In the 3rd period, Adam Anderson scored and Stirtzinger added his second of the game. Drew Richter had the other goal for the Jr. Blues. Ice Dogs goalie Gavin Nieto made 26 saves in the win. MN Magicians 2 @ Aberdeen 5 – A four-goal 2nd period led the Wings to a 5-2 win on Saturday, which completed a weekend sweep, keeping the Wings in the 4th and final playoff spot in the Central. The Magicians got on the board in the 1st period with a goal from Travis Brown.  The Wings took over in the 2nd period with four goals in 15 minutes from Ryan Cook, Jackson Graalum, Tucker DeYoung and Will Hammer. In the 3rd period, John Peterson scored a power play goal for the Magicians and Tyler Bossert added an empty-net goal for the Wings. Gavin Paczosa made 38 saves in the win, while Will Ulrich made 23 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Kenai River 1 @ Coulee Region 6 – Four 1st period goals and two goals from Phil Erickson propelled the Chill to a 6-1 win and weekend sweep of the Brown Bears. The Chill scored four goals in a 16-minute span in the 1st period, which included tallies from Erickson, Alex Lambacher, Larry Jungwirth and Justin Kendall. The Brown Bears got their lone goal of the game in the 2nd period with the shorthanded strike from Evan Butcher.  In the 3rd period, Erickson added his second of the game and Joey Sofo also scored. Chill goalie Hunter Vorva made 33 saves in the win. Boxscore

Corpus Christi 3 @ Odessa 1 – Dryden McKay made 27 saves to lead the IceRays to a 3-1 win and weekend road sweep in Odessa to move back into sole possession of the 4th and final playoff spot in the South Division. The IceRays got off to a strong start with two 1st period goals from Andy McGlynn and Cody Lichtenvoort. Brad Power added the IceRays third goal late in the 2nd period to make the score 3-0. Less than a minute later, Odessa would finally break through for their lone goal of the night, which came via the power play from Derek Brown. Jacks goalie Dean Shatzer made 25 saves in the loss. Janesville 7 @ MN Wilderness 1 – The Jets needed just 17 shots to score seven goals as they took three of four points over the weekend thanks to a 7-1 win on Saturday. Adam Winborg and Dawson DiPietro had three points each to pace the Jets. Janesville opened up a 4-0 lead thanks to a 1st period goal from Shane Sellar and 2nd period goals from DiPietro, Adrian Holesinsky and Taylor Fernandez. The Wilderness got on the board midway through the 3rd period on a tally from Jacob Tinker, but Janesville would score three more times, including two goals from Kip Hoffman and one from Martin Sundberg. Jets goalie Jack LaFontaine made 26 saves in the win. Boxscore

Bismarck 3 @ Brookings 1 – New Bobcats goalie Nick Althaus made 24 saves in his first career NAHL game to lead the Bobcats to a 3-1 win on Brookings on Saturday to take back sole possession of 1st place in the Central Division. The Bobcats got on the board first with a late 1st period goal from Nick Alexander, which came shorthanded. After a scoreless 2nd period, Bismarck took a 2-0 lead with the eventual game-winner from Brock Montgomery. Brookings got on the board later in the period with their lone goal from Connor Hutchins. Alex Strand added an empty-net goal for the Bobcats. Brookings goalie Josh Kuehmichel made 29 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Aston 2 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3 (OT) – Dorian Dawson scored just his second goal of the season, but it was the overtime-winner as the Knights upended the Rebels by a score of 3-2. The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a 1st period goal from Tanner Bennett and a 2nd period goal from Braden Brown.  The Rebels came back in the 2nd period with two straight goals to knot the game at 2-2 and Ryan Solomon and Dom Garcia found the back of the net. Knights goalie Andrey Svistunov made 26 saves in the win, while Rebels goalie Trevor Micucci made 37 saves in the OT loss. Boxscore

Johnstown 1 @ New Jersey 8 – Bruno Birzitis had four points, including a hat-trick and Jack Berry made 41 saves in his return to the line-up to lead the Titans to an 8-1 win over the visiting Tomahawks. New Jersey jumped out to a 4-0 lead with 1st period goals from Birzitis and Jesse Farabee and 2nd period goals from Joseph Schuler and Roberts Smits. Johnstown would made it 4-1 later in the 2nd period with their lone goal from Ryan Burr.  After that, it was four more in a row from the Titans, which included goals from Keegan Miller, another from Smits and two more from Birzitis in the 3rd period.
