Saturday Scores: IceRays keep rolling with road sweep

Corpus Christi 2 @ Topeka 1 – The IceRays continued their winning streak with a 2-1 win in Topeka on Saturday, which completed a weekend road sweep. Topeka led early thanks to a goal seven minutes into the game from Quinn Preston.  However, that would be all goalie Graham Hunt and the IceRays would allow the rest of the way. The 3rd period saw Corpus Christi strike twice on goals from Drake Lindsay and Mason Kruger to come from behind for the win. Hunt made 24 save to complete his four-win week, while Tyler Johnson made 17 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Bismarck 3 @ Brookings 0 – The Bobcats completed a three-win week with a 3-0 shutout in Brookings on Saturday as goalie Hunter Shepard stopped all 20 shots that came his way for this league-leading fifth shutout of the season. The Bobcats jumped ahead 1-0 with a late 1st period power play goal from Oskars Batna, which would stand as the game-winner. Alex Strand and Parker Mismash added 2nd period goals as insurance. Brookings goalie Josh Kuehmichel made 21 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Kenai River 1 @ Johnstown 3 – The Tomahawks completed a weekend home sweep of the Brown Bears thanks to 26 saves from Ryan Glander in a 3-1 win. It was the Brown Bears who struck first with a goal three minutes into the game from Miro Lehtimaki, which was his first in a Brown Bear uniform. Johnstown would tie the game late in the 1st period on a goal from Ryan Burr. The eventual game-winning goal came late in the 2nd period on a shorthanded tally from Andrew Romano. Kelly O’Brien added a 3rd period goal to secure the win. Nick Nast made 30 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Aberdeen 3 @ Minot 1 – Peter Thome made 32 saves to lead the Wings to a 3-1 road win in Minot on Saturday. The Wings took a 1-0 lead with a 1st period power play goal from Ryan Cook. Minot responded back in the 2nd period to tie the game at 1-1 with a goal from Derek Frentz. The Wings struck back right before the period was up on a goal from Kevin Fitzgerald. Tyler Bossert would score late in the 3rd period to add an insurance goal for Aberdeen. Lucas Murray made 19 saves in the Minot loss. Boxscore

Amarillo 1 @ Wichita Falls 2 – The Wildcats completed a weekend sweep of the Bulls thanks to 26 saves from Justin Kapelmaster in a 2-1 home win.  After a scoreless 1st period, the Wildcats jumped ahead 2-0 with two 2nd period goals from Jonathan Lazarus and Austin Beaulieu. Amarillo cut the lead to 2-1 with a shorthanded goal early in the 3rd period from Charlie Singerhouse, but that would be all the Bulls could get.  Bulls goalie Anton Martinsson played well in the loss, making 41 saves. Lone Star 6 @ Odessa 2  - The Brahmas salvaged a weekend split in Odessa thanks to goals from six different players in a 6-2 win on Saturday. Odessa got on the board first with an early goal from Nate Werhane. Lone Star responded with four straight goals from Martin Mellberg, Bud Madej, Johan Lundgren and Peter Bates to open up a 4-1 lead. Hampus Sjodahl scored for the Jacks before the 2nd period was done to make it 4-2. Lone Star got two more goals in the 3rd period from Hogan Davidson and Alex Berardinelli to secure the 6-2 win. Corbin Kaczperski made 22 saves in the win. Boxscore

Coulee Region 5 @ Janesville 0 – Chill goalie Matiss Kivlenieks completed a big week by posting his first NAHL shutout in a 5-0 road win in Janesville. It was all Chill as they got two 1st period goals from Aussie Miller and Dominik Florian, two 2nd period goals from Nico Luka and Kevin Dineen and a 3rd period goal from Matt Doran. Kivlenieks made 24 saves in the shutout win, while Jack LaFontaine made 23 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Springfield 6 @ MN Magicians 0 – It was all Jr. Blues as they picked up a 6-0 shutout on the road against the Magicians. Tommy Nappier made 23 saves for his first career NAHL shutout. Anthony Scarsella opened the scoring in the 1st period with a power play goal. The Jr. Blues scored three times in the 2nd period, which included goals from Matt Long, Hunter Schneider and Luke Radetic. In the 3rd period Brady Tomlak scored twice to complete the win. Brennan Blaszczak added three assists in the win. Magicians goalie Will Ulrich was saddled with the loss, making 13 saves. Boxscore

Fairbanks 5 @ Aston 2 – Five different players scored and the Ice Dogs scored the last three goals of the game to beat the Rebels, 5-2. The game was tied at 2-2 midway through the game as the Ice Dogs got goals from Mitchell Baumann and Reggie Lutz, while the Rebels countered with goals from Andrew Ballant and Gvido Jansons. The Ice Dogs took the lead for goal with goals later in the 2nd period from Clay Cross and Logan Coomes and a 3rd period goal from Alex Mehnert. CJ Boothe made 21 saves in the win, while Trevor Micucci made 35 saves in the loss. Boxscore
