Saturday Scores: Sweep puts Bruins back in 1st place

New Jersey 2 @ Johnstown 3 (SO) – Johnstown won their fourth straight game and second of the weekend thanks to a 3-2 shootout win on Saturday night. It was the New Jersey Titans whoe jumped out to an early lead as 1st period goals from Raymond Brice and Adam Hascic made the score 2-0.  The Tomahawks responded with two goals in the 2nd period to tie the game at 2-2 from Tommy Horn and Niko Coffman. After a scoreless 3rd period and overtime, the shootout winner came off the stick of Adam Pilewicz. Andrew Lindgren made 23 saves in the win, while Harrison Feeney made 25 saves in the loss. Aberdeen 1 @ Austin 5 – Robbie Goor made 24 saves and Dawson DiPietro had a three-point night as the Bruins completed a weekend home sweep of the Wings with a 5-1 win on Saturday. The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 1st period goals from AJ Drobot and Austin Rueschhoff. The Wings cut into the lead early in the 2nd period with what would be their lone goal from Tanner Okeson. The Bruins would respond with the final three goals of the game, including one the 2nd period from Michael Piehler and 3rd period goals from Gilbert Gabor and DiPietro. Boxscore

Bismarck 6 @ Minot 3 – Patrik Demel had three points and Hunter Shepard made 38 saves to help the Bismarck Bobcats to a 6-3 win and complete a weekend home-and-home sweep of the Minot Minotauros. Bismarck jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Oskars Batna, Jared Pike and Aaron Herdt. Minot would try and claw back with goals from Derek Frentz and Troy Delger to make it 3-2, but the Bobcats increased the lead to 4-2 on a goal from Alex Strand late in the 2nd period. In the 3rd period Demel and Harrison Aide scored to give the Bobcats the cushion they needed. Johnny Walker had the other Minot goal. Boxscore

Fairbanks 5 @ Kenai River 0 – Gavin Nieto made 18 saves as the Ice Dogs shutout the Brown Bears on Saturday, 5-0. It was all Ice Dogs as they outshot Kenai River, 43-18. Ryner Gorowsky had four points in the win, including the game’s opening goal in the 1st period. Todd Burgess added a 2nd period power play goal and then two more in the 3rd period to complete a hat-trick, along with another goal from Gorowsky to make it a 5-0 final. Nick Nast made 38 saves in the Brown Bears loss. Boxscore

Lone Star 1 @ Amarillo 2 – Anton Martinsson had a career game in goal as he stopped 44 of 45 shots that came his way as the Bulls snapped their nine-game losing streak with their first win of the season over the visiting Brahmas. The Bulls got an early goal from Michael Forman to take a 1-0 lead. The Brahmas answered with the lone goal just :14 seconds later from Troy York. The game-winner came midway through the 2ndperiod on a power play goal from Jacob Nitsche. Corbin Kaczperski made 17 saves in the loss for the Brahmas. Boxscore

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 4 @ Aston 3 – The Knights erased a 2-0 deficit and scored all four of their goals in a seven minute span of the 3rd period as they salvaged a weekend home-and-home split with the Rebels with a 4-3 road win on Saturday night. Aston led 2-0 after two periods on goals from Michael Merulla and Jerry Miettuten. The Knights then exploded for four goals in the 3rd period from Paul Maust, Braden Brown, Isaac Cirinna and Dmitriy Zaitsev. Ryan Cusin had the other Rebels goal. Andrey Svistunov made 24 saves in the win, while Trevor Micucci made 33 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Coulee Region 2 @ Springfield 3 – The Jr. Blues snapped a five-game losing streak thanks to a 3-2 home win over the visiting Chill, which earned them a weekend split of the series. The Jr. Blues jumped ahead 1-0 on a goal from Anthony Scarsella. The Chill answered on a goal from Brady Ferner to make it 1-1 after one period. Springfield then scored twice in the 2nd period, which would stand as the winning margin as Trevor Stone and Coale Norris scored. Brady Ferner had both goals for the Chill. Niko Della Maggorie made 30 saves in the win, while Hunter Vorva played well in the loss, making 37 saves. Boxscore

Janesville 5 @ Brookings 2 – Five different players scored as the Jets earned a weekend road split in Brookings with a 5-2 win on Saturday. Janesville jumped ahead 2-0 on goals from Kip Hoffman and Adam Roeder. Brookings cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal from Griff Jeszka, but the Jets answered back with two more goals from Andrew Roye and Cole Chatham. In the 3rd period Parker Revering scored for the Blizzard and Cullen Munson scored for Janesville. Jack LaFontaine made 19 saves in the win, while Magnus Lindhe made 20 saves in the loss. Boxscore
