Chill, Top Prospects defenseman Rafferty makes NCAA DI commitment

February 26, 2015
The Coulee Region Chill, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce the defenseman Brogan Rafferty has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Quinnipiac University in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Rafferty, 19, is coming off his appearance earlier this week in the 2015 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, where he played for the Midwest Division team, which went undefeated at the event.

Rafferty (6’1/185) was very good at the event, recording three assists and was +3 in the two games at the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament. Quinnipiac was just one of the hundreds of scouts that were in attendance at the event and Rafferty secured his commitment shortly thereafter.

“Brogan has worked incredibly hard for this opportunity. We couldn't be more proud as a staff and thankful for the job the league does putting on the top prospects tournament. Quinnipiac will be getting not only a top end player, but a great kid off the ice who does things the right way,” said Coulee Region head coach AJ Degenhardt.

The native of West Dundee, Illinois, is in his second full season playing for the Chill in the NAHL.  In 47 games so far this season, Rafferty has 23 points (2 goals, 21 assists). His 23 points ranks 5th on the team and 2nd among Chill defensemen.

Rafferty also played last season for the Chill, recording 22 points in 53 games played.  He made his NAHL debut during the 2012-13 season in one game with the Topeka RoadRunners after playing that season for the Team Illinois 18U team.

In 101 career NAHL regular season games, Rafferty has 47 career points. He is the second Chill player this season to make an NCAA Division I commitment, joining teammate Adam Carlson (Mercyhurst).
