Ice Dogs, Wilderness win on Thursday night

Brock Kautz made 27 saves for his first shutout of the season as the Wilderness blanked the Magicians.

– The Ice Dogs spoiled the Chill’s home opener in a 6-5 win in a shootout that required eight shooters a side. Lonnie Clary opened the scoring in the 1st period for Fairbanks, but the Chill would answer with two goals from Dominik Florian and Brogan Rafferty. Chandler Madry scored for Fairbanks early in the 2nd period, but again the Chill would answer on a goal from Eddie Matsushima. The Ice Dogs took their first lead of the night on goals from Jacob Hetz and Jakob Stridsberg in the 2nd period, but a goal from Richard Zehnal late in the period would tie things at 4-4. After a goal from Ethan Somoza made it 5-4 Fairbanks, it appeared the Ice Dogs were on their way to a regulation win until the Chill tied the game with :23 seconds remaining on a goal from Sean Lang. Minnesota Magicians 0 @ Minnesota Wilderness 3
– Brock Kautz stopped all 27 shots that came his way for his first shutout of the season as the Wilderness shutout the Magicians, 3-0 in front of 1,652 fans in Cloquet. After a scoreless 1st period, the Wilderness did all their scoring in the 2nd period with goals from Tobias Bjorklund, Brett Heikkila and Darian Romanko. Bjorklund ended up with a multi-point game for the evening. Vaughan Ahrens took the loss in goal for the Magicians, making 38 saves. Boxscore
