Jets forward Shuchuk makes NCAA Division I commitment

June 5, 2014
The Janesville Jets, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Alex Shuchuk has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Wisconsin of the Big Ten Conference.

Shuchuk (5’11/175), a 20-year-old, calls Madison, Wisconsin home.  Shuchuk has two seasons with the Jets under his belt appearing in 63 games, scoring a goal with five assists for six points for the Jets.

“We are very proud of Alex because this commitment is a result of all the hard work he put in on and off of the ice. Alex is a player with great hockey sense and isn’t afraid to put in the work,” said Janesville head coach Joe Dibble.  “For him to commit to a hockey institution like the University of Wisconsin makes this a great achievement for him”.

Wisconsin coach Mike Eaves said that the younger Shuchuk, who is the 11th newcomer and seventh forward for next season, “has a great hockey mind and a good work ethic.’’

Eaves described Shuchuk as the 15th forward who’s “going to have to grind his way up the ladder’’ to the lineup and who’s “the kind of guy you want in the program.’’

“I love to challenge myself and this seemed to be the ultimate challenge for me,’’ said Alex, who had a 3.8 grade point average in high school and spoke of wanting to major in kinesiology.

Shuchuk is the tenth player from the Jets 2013-14 roster to have secured an NCAA Division I commitment, joining Kyle Patava (Army), Nick Petrella (Holy Cross) , Jesse Junttila (Northern Michigan), Austin Priebe (Air Force), Mike Louria (U-Mass Lowell), Jordan Himley(Air Force), Robin Hoglund (University of Minnesota), Logan Halladay (University of Minnesota), and Drew Callin (Bentley University).
