Bryan Nies made 40 saves in a 7-3 win over the Coulee Region Chill on Sunday in the final NAHL regular season game.
Minnesota Magicians 7 @ Coulee Region Chill 3 – Although they didn’t even play on Sunday, the Kenai River Brown Bears felt the biggest impact of the Minnesota Magicians 7-3 win in the final NAHL regular season game on Sunday over the Coulee Region Chill, as the Brown Bears clinched the 16th and final playoff spot thanks to the Magicians win, which prevented the Chill from earning the one more precious point they need to get into the playoffs. Will Johnson scored twice and Bryan Nies made 40 saves in the win.
After the Magicians took a 2-0 lead on goals from Johnson and Matt Colford, the Chill responded with a goal from Jesse Tredinnick to draw within 2-1. The teams then went back and forth in the 2nd period, exchanging goals as Johnson and Mario Bianchi scored for Minnesota and Gordon Wells scored twice for Coulee Region to make the score 4-3.
However, the Magicians put the pedal to the metal late in the 2nd period with a big goal from Alex Funk at the end of the period, which gave the Magicians the momentum heading into the final period.
It took until the end of the game, but the Magicians would add two empty net goals from Paul O’Connor and Colin Hernon. Nick Kuchera added two assists for the Magicians, while Adam Lovick had a pair of assists for the Chill. Adam Carlson took the loss in goal for Coulee Region, making 27 saves.
With the loss, the Chill finish one point behind the 4th and final playoff spot in the Midwest Division, which will belong to the Kenai River Brown Bears. A complete NAHL playoff preview will be posted later this week.
