NAHL, NA3HL alum Jacobson named top NCAA DIII player

March 24, 2014
St. Norbert College goaltender David Jacobson was named as the NCAA Division III Player of the Year. The honor was presented this past weekend right before Jacobson and his St. Norbert Golden Knights won the NCAA Division III National Championship.

Jacobson is not only an alumni of the NAHL, playing for the Janesville Jets during the 2010-11 season, but he is also an alumni of the NA3HL (CSHL), playing for the Quad City Jr. Flames during the 2009-10 season.

For the entire season in goal, David Jacobson has been a stonewall for St. Nobert as he has led them to the Frozen Four with a 22-1-1 record, a 1.24 GAA and a .935 save percentage. He also has seven shutouts.

The NCHA player of the year added another trophy to his mantle Thursday night as he was named the Sid Watson Award winner as the nation’s top player in Division III hockey.

For Jacobson, it was another step in this season’s journey. “I just talked to the guy at the table, actually, [and] I related it to a nice move without a goal,” Jacobson said of the award. “It doesn’t mean anything unless you score.”

“I give all my stats to my d-core and the backcheck of the relentless forwards,” said Jacobson. “They have helped me out so much this year, especially the d-core. Those guys have been working hard all year, working well with me. Our chemistry has been really clicking and this season has been really successful.”

In the National Championship game, Jacobson made 21 saves as St. Norbert defeated Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 3-1. Jacobson was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

During the 2010-11 season, Jacobson played for the Janesville Jets in the NAHL. During that season, he also appeared in both Top Prospects Tournaments in Boston and Detroit. During that season Jacobson posted a 26-14-3 record and he ranked 4th in the NAHL in goals against average with a 2.07 mark.

During the 2009-10 season, Jacobson played for Quad City in the NA3HL (CSHL) and posted a 21-15-3 record. He led the league that season in games and minutes played and was 4th in save percentage with a 91.1% mark.
