Friday Finals: Ice Dogs get big shutout in Wenatchee

Fairbanks Ice Dogs 4 @ Wenatchee Wild 0 – Lake Superior State graduate Kevin Aldridge stopped all 16 shots that came his way for his 2nd shutout of the season as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs put themselves on the brink of a Midwest Division title with a 4-0 shutout of the Wild in Wenatchee. Jacob Hetz scored in the 1st period, Viktor Liljergren scored in the 2nd period and Duggie Lagrone and Lonnie Clary added 3rd period goals. Chase Perry made 31 saves in the Wild loss. Boxscore

Topeka RoadRunners 3 @ Amarillo Bulls 2 (OT) – Cody Champagne scored just over two minutes into overtime as the Topeka RoadRunners picked up a big 3-2 overtime win in Amarillo on Friday. Topeka got off to a fast start, taking a 2-0 lead early in the 2nd period on goals from Sam Rennaker and Tyler Poulsen. Amarillo eventually tied the game on two power play goals, the first from Roman Ammirato and the second from Mike Davis with just :24 seconds to go in regulation setting up Champagne’s overtime heroics. Austin Bruins 1 @ Minot Minotauros 3 – Minot took a big step towards a playoff berth as they beat division-leading Austin 3-1 at home on Friday. Minot’s big period came in the 2nd period as they scored all three of their goals. Goals from Jacob Howie, Colton Kramer and Tim Donohue all within a 10-minute span gave the Minotauros a 3-0 lead.  Niko HIldenbrand scored the lone goal for Austin in the 3rd period, but Minot goalie Brandon Wildung held the fort the rest of the way, making 28 saves. Wichita Falls Wildcats 3 @ Lone Star Brahmas 2 (SO) – The Wildcats clinched the South Division’s final playoff spot with a 3-2 shootout win over the Lone Star Brahmas. The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Todd Koritzinsky. The Brahmas answered with two straight goals from Hogan Davidson and Matt Lison to take a 2-1 lead midway through the 3rd period. Nick Farmer tied the game at 2-2 late in 3rd period. In the shootout, David Zevnik stopped all five shooters in the shootout, while Sam Piazza scored the lone goal in the shootout for the Wildcats. Aberdeen Wings 7 @ Brookings Blizzard 0 – The Wings closed the gap on the lead in the Central Division with a 7-0 win in Brookings on Friday. Chad Catt stopped all 29 shots that came his way for his 4th shutout of the season. Erik Baskin scored twice including one of the three goals in the 1st period along with goals from Colin O’Neill and Jonathan Grebosky. The Wings scored three more goals in the 2nd period on goals from Baskin, Zach Doerring and TJ Roo. Bjorn Sigurdarson added a 3rd period power play goal to make the final score 7-0. Connor Girard made 18 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Michigan Warriors 2 @ Soo Eagles 3 (SO) – The Soo Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead and then held off a Michigan rally to win in a shootout, 3-2. The Eagles took a 2-0 lead early in the 2nd period on goals from Scott Cuthrell and Michael Sabatini. Michigan responded with goals from Cam Jorgensen and TJ Stuntz. In the shootout, Cuthrell and Trevor Boyd scored for the Eagles, while Paige Skoog stopped four of five Warriors shooters, making 24 saves in the win. Boxscore

Janesville Jets 2 @ Johnstown Tomahawks 0 – Logan Halladay stopped all 27 shots that came his way for his 2nd shutout of the season as the Jets held onto the 4th and final playoff spot on the North Division thanks to a 2-0 shutout. The win put the Jets just three points behind the Tomahawks for 3rd place in the North. Janesville got goals from Zach Avolio in the 1st period and Drew Callin in the 2nd period. Alex Okicki made 20 saves in the Tomahawks loss. Boxscore

Kenai River Brown Bears 4 @ Corpus Christi IceRays 0 – In front of almost 4,000 fans in Corpus Christi, the Brown Bears spoiled the party thanks to 34 saves from Zach Quinn in a 4-0 shutout of the IceRays. The Brown Bears took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period on a goal from Tyler Andrews. A goal from Vincent Stefan made it 2-0 in the 2nd period. In the 3rd period, the Brown Bears scored two more goals from Frankie Spellman and Sebastian Fuchs. Ben Myers took the loss in goal for the IceRays, making 24 saves. Boxscore

Port Huron Fighting Falcons 1 @ Springfield Jr. Blues 2 – Tyger Howat made 25 saves to earn his first career NAHL wins as the Jr. Blues kept their playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 win against 1st place Port Huron. After a scoreless 1st period, the Jr. Blues took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period on a goal from Brycon Johnson. Michael Mylchreest made the score 2-0 in favor of the Jr. Blues with a goal midway through the 3rd period. Bryan Yim scored the lone Fighting Falcons goal late in the 3rd period, but Howat held the fort the rest of the way. Boxscore

Minnesota Wilderness 3 @ Bismarck Bobcats 4 (SO) – The Bobcats snapped their losing streak thanks to a 4-3 shootout win over the Wilderness. The Wilderness took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Michael Covach. Bismarck took a 2-1 lead with two late 1st period goals from Ryan Callahan and Nathan Flynn. Dan Litchke tied the game in the 2nd period for Minnesota. Nate Repensky scored for Bismarck and Ivan Chukarov scored for the Wilderness to keep the score tied and send the game to a shootout, where Bismarck scored twice on goals from Repensky and Stanislav Dzakhov. Coulee Region Chill 2 @ Minnesota Magicians 4 – The Magicians rode three 1st period goals on their way to a 4-2 win over the Chill. Thomas Delaney, Mario Bianchi and Jack Weiss all scored in the 1st period for Minnesota. Griff Jeszka had the lone goal for the Chill. In the 3rd period, the teams exchanged goals as Adam Lovick scored for Coulee Region and Nick Kuchera added a late 3rd period goal to secure the win for the Magicians. Bryan Nies made 29 saves in the win. Boxscore
