Saturday Scores: Minot picks up road sweep in Aberdeen
Minot Minotauros 4 @ Aberdeen Wings 1 – An efficient Minot offense needed just 18 shots to scored four goals as they completed a weekend road sweep of the Aberdeen Wings. The Wings took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period with a goal from Zach Doerring, but the Minotauros responded with a goal from Jacob Howie to tie the game at 1-1. Scott Dornbrock scored in the 2nd period and Jake McCann and Jon Lizotte added 3rd period goals. Boxscore
Fairbanks Ice Dogs 5 @ Wichita Falls Wildcats 4 – Lonnie Clary scored with just :42 seconds remaining in the 3rd period to give Fairbanks a 5-4 win and weekend sweep of the Wildcats. The scored was tied at 2-2 after one period as Kyle Lee and Ethan Somoza scored for the Ice Dogs and Tyler Ledford and Will Vosejpka scored for the Wildcats. After a Jake Townsend goal made it 3-2 for the home side, Brett Gervais and Colton Wolter scored for Fairbanks, pushing the lead to 4-3. Kyle Bauman tied the game at 4-4 early in the 3rd period, which set the stage for Clary in the game’s final minute. Boxscore
Minnesota Magicians 1 @ Minnesota Wilderness 2 – Frank Oplinger made 23 saves to lead the Wilderness to a 2-1 win and weekend sweep of their in-state rival Magicians. After Nick Anderson gave the Magicians a 1-0 lead just 3:20 into the game, the Wilderness responded with two goals of their own in the 1st period from Thomas Lindstrom and Jakob Romo. Michigan Warriors 4 @ Johnstown Tomahawks 2 – Colin Larkin scored twice and Alec Pellegrino had three assists to lead the Michigan Warriors to a 4-2 win and weekend sweep in Johnstown. The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game on goals from Colin Horton and Jake Hopfner. Johnstown responded with two straight from Joe Drabin and Mitch Hall to tie the game at 2-2 early in the 2nd period. Then came Larkin’s heroics as he scored late in the 2nd period and with 6:35 remaining in the 3rd period. Boxscore
Brookings Blizzard 2 @ Austin Bruins 3 – A late 3rd period goal from Jay Dickman with less than a minute remaining gave the Bruins a 3-2 win and weekend sweep of the Blizzard. Brookings took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Jeff Flicker, which was answered by a goal from Austin’s Sam Kauppila. Evan Hesse pushed the Brookings lead to 2-1 in the 2nd period, but 3rd period goals from Eli May and Dickman secured the Austin win. Boxscore
Janesville Jets 1 @ Soo Eagles 4 – It was the Scott Cuthrell and Nick Belger show as the Soo teammates each scored twice in a 4-1 home win over the visiting Janesville Jets. Cuthrell gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 1st period. After a goal from Janesville’s Adam Winborg tied the game at 1-1, Cuthrell scored his second making it 2-1. In the 3rd period, Nick Belger scored twice to make the final 4-1. Landon Trutt made 29 saves in the win. Boxscore
Amarillo Bulls 8 @ Odessa Jackalopes 0 – A night after having their 9-game winning streak snapped by Odessa, the Bulls got some revenge on Saturday with an 8-0 shutout. Eight different players scored for the Bulls including Brady Ferguson, Cody Gylling, Ben Jentsch and Mike Davis in the 1st period, Mitchell McPherson and Timmy Moore in the 2nd period and Matt Sieckhaus and Brendan Vetter in the 3rd period. Colin Delia made 19 saves for the shutout. Boxscore
Bismarck Bobcats 4 @ Wenatchee Wild 3 (SO) – Despite a two-goal comeback in the 3rd period, the Wenatchee Wild could not solve Bobcats goalie Aaron Nelson in the shootout as Bismarck salvaged a weekend sweep with a 4-3 shootout win. Bismarck led 3-1 after two periods thanks to two goals from Stanislav Dzakhov and another from Huba Sekesi. Wenatchee stormed back with goals from Mitch Demario, Gadel Gumerov and Mike Coyne. Chris Diver had the lone goal in the shootout. Boxscore
Lone Star Brahmas 1 @ Topeka RoadRunners 4 – In front of a big crowd of over 3,500 fans, the Topeka RoadRunners kept their hot streak going with a 4-1 win over Lone Star. Topeka led 2-0 after the 1st period on goals from Yu Hikosaka and Willie Brown. Jake Kamrass made it 3-0 for the home side in the 2nd period before Conner Enciso scored for the Brahmas to make it 3-1. Michael Uhrik scored in the 3rd period to make the final 4-1. Topeka goalie PJ Bridges made 17 saves in the win. Boxscore
Coulee Region Chill 1 @ Springfield Jr. Blues 5 – Stefanos Lekkas made 35 saves to help the Jr. Blues to a 5-1 win over the visiting Chill. The Jr. Blues jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the 1st period on goals from Nik Dotolo, Lester Lancaster and Max Kalter. After Cam Bleck scored for the Chill early in the 3rd period to make it 3-1, the Jr. Blues would add two more goals from Nikita Prishyvalko and David DeKorte to secure the 5-1 final. Boxscore
