Davis named assistant coach in Texas

July 13, 2009

The Texas Tornado has announced that Jesse Davis has been named the team’s assistant coach and assistant general manager.

Davis, from Detroit, worked last year as the Midwest representative for Cardinal Sports and Pointstreak and as an assistant coach with Detroit Belle Tire’s Midget Major AAA team.

“I think Jesse is a great hockey guy and a top recruiter with Midget Major kids,” said Tornado head coach and general manager Tony Curtale.  “His experience with Cardinal Sports and his work getting players eligible for college and placing them will be a huge asset to us.

“Moving players on to Division I and pro hockey is a main goal of the Tornado and Jesse will be a big part of those efforts.”

Davis played youth hockey with the St. Clair Shores Hockey Association and was drafted to the Michigan Nationals of the NAJHL in 1993 and was traded to the Detroit Freeze of the NAHL where he finished his junior career in 1995.

Davis played nine years in the minor professional ranks with stops in the CoHL, UHL, ECHL, CPHL, SPHL and GCHL.

In addition to Belle Tire, Davis’ extensive coaching resume includes stints with the Motor City Chiefs of the CSHL, Detroit Little Caesars Midget AAA, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep High School and Detroit Compuware Midget AAA.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Texas Tornado,” said Davis.  “This program has a great reputation for developing players and moving them on to elite levels of play. I’m looking forward to continuing the tradition.”
