Springfield forward Groton makes NCAA commitment

April 24, 2019
The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Cade Groton has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.

Groton, 21, was acquired by Springfield from the Johnstown Tomahawks in the off-season prior to the 2018-19 season. In his final season of junior hockey this season, Groton played in 48 games and compiled 3 goals and 10 assists for 13 points, while providing leadership both on and off the ice as the team’s captain.

“Cade came to us after serving as captain for the Tomahawks last season,” coach Tyler Rennette commented, “and immediately resumed that role upon arrival. He is a hard working player and we wish him the best of luck next season.”

In 111 NAHL games played, the 5’11/180 lbs. native of Ashburn, Virginia, tallied 9 goals, 13 assists, and 196 penalty minutes. He wore the “C” twice, once for the Tomahawks and once for the Jr. Blues.

Groton is also an NAPHL alum, playing with the Washington Little Capitals 18U team during the 2015-16 season, where he recorded 35 points in 25 games played and was also named to the Academic Honor Roll.

Hamilton College's athletics nickname is the Continentals and they are a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
